Mapa de Novo Paolo / Bubbleopolis

This is an updated version of the map that has appeared a few times in this strip, the first being Volume 5, the Château Perilleux arc. It shows the areas fully controlled by the IGC invaders in the early days of Part 3. The yellow areas are not fully under heel but assaults are happening in most of them as the invaders choose their various targets.

Displacement tech has forced a re-write of many military strategy texts.

Portuguese will work. There are some words in Spanish and the grammar is more English.

"Sigh." WTH?

Doug

Sigh. I don't see it as a Big Deal. Even if English remains the "Big Language", five hundred or more years from now, it would be much different than today's English.

Paul S Howard

Well, if that's the case, then it looks like there's a typo. The text has a 199, one-hundred-ninety-nine, but the most likely candidate for a bordering edge is 119, one-hundred-nineteen.

Sean Roach

The bottom right talks about it being a 2-dimensional projection of a 3-dimensional region, and states which 6 of them were destroyed in the Gran Raio (The unconnected no.68 and the ones that would connect it to the outer edge). Their reconstruction was delayed by the war.

Even without translation, it's not hard to figure out the gist of most of them. E.g., the bottom left is clearly describing when "barbujas" (bubbles?) were added. The first sentence there probably says they are numbered in the order they were added, and then it gives dates for numero uno and the most recent bubble.

Donald R Woods

True but that's just a mechanic for getting rid of English. I don't understand the motivation to get rid of it.

Doug

From what I remember, part of the backstory is that Europe & North America were almost completely destroyed so the center of civilization moved to South America so the Main Language used was a mixture of Spanish & Portuguese.

Paul S Howard

I never did understand the need to replace English with Esperanto.

Doug

So I need to go to Google Translate to figure out the content of this?
