Backstage update - May 2021

Hey!

There's some important things going on in my life right now, that I thought you guys should be aware of.

Yesterday I've been laid off from my day job. Also in a particularly nasty way and agaisnt my expectations. Maybe some of you have seen me sharing this information on my community chat - you can read more details there if you want - but that's not important.

I'd like to tackle some questions you might have about this.

Q: What does this mean for your FOSS audio-related work?
A: Not much so far. I may have a bit more time to make videos in the following months before I get another full-time job.And once I do, I may have a little less, as I'll probably need to focus on adapting to a new workplace and making sure my new employers are happy.

Q: Why don't you start making videos full-time now?
The community support is amazing and I am very grateful for it, though as it stands now, it's at 50% of an absolute bare minimum that'd enable me do that. And at 20% of something that'd actually be reasonable. I would absolutely love to do that, but I it'd be a very risky long - term investment that me and my family can't go for at this point. I am very much looking forward to this becoming a possibility in the future though.

Q: So you want me to give you more money now?
A: No. I'm not in any trouble and I don't want to use this as an emotional leverage to make people donate more. If you want to donate - do so because you value my work and want me to do more, not because I told you a sad story.

Q: How can I help then?
A: If you would like to help, I think possibly the best way is to share my videos with people who may find them useful. This will lead to more people learning about me, some and of them will feel it's a good idea to support me and we're gonna get a little closer to me doing videos instead of seeking other employment. Of course please don't spam my content in places that are not going to like that though.

Q: What kind of jobs you're looking for?
A: I'm qualified as a 3D artist, though I've been doing a lot of mixed creative work including music and SFX production, voice acting, video editing and visual effects, writing and 2D design as well. If you know of any companies looking for a general artist for remote work (preferably with FOSS) I'd love to learn more. If you have any leads - please get in touch.

Thank you all for your support and I'll see you soon in the net video :)

Hold on, unfa! Wish you brand new awesome creative start as soon as you'd like to! So far, appreciation for music, videos and all the stuff. And looking forward for the new ones, of course! Cheers!

Unfortunately, this will be a recurring theme in any professional career. People do not appreciate workers that can think for themselves. Instead of seeing it as an opportunity, most managers see it as problematic. But understand that this is always a reflection of the limited social, emotional, and cognitive abilities of said manager. Smart, balanced people have no reason to be afraid of smart workers.

Thanks! Yeah, it'll probably serve me better to be off from there sooner than later.

Hey, I'm sorry to read that you were fired with such a bad behavior. I don't know how hard it was to take those harsh words, but I can't help but think that you just dodged a massive bullet there. Any workplace with think kind of toxic people in tends to destroy the souls of those who stay for a longer time. If you're looking for another day job, I should mention that Red Hat has a few open positions, mainly on their new car-related endeavors - you might be interested in any one of them?

Thank you! I am glad I can provide something of such unique value!

Oh dear, really sorry to read that, one can turn it any way round, this kind of situation is always upleasent. My first reaction was, ok, I should donate more. It is reassuring to read you are not in financial troubles, but I am really willing to donate more if it can be of any help. Because your work is really precious, I learn a lot from you and am quite sure that I would not learn most of what you show anywhere else and would struggle a lot applying audio production stuff I learn with FOSS tools
