I really really really wanted to wait to release this until I had some sort of a 3-panel mini-OC sheet/comic done up that described some of Jessica's backstory (was going to do one for Vanessa as well, just to try and make things look a bit more legit), but I swear nothing ever goes according to plan in 3D these days (at least, not from my end).
Unfortunately I've run into some problems with the hair styling and rigging, to which I've yet to find any applicable solution. As such, these are still some pretty heavy WIP renders that are subject to change. At the bare minimum, I wanted to clean up the hair groom a bit and redo the glasses before I officially released her, but since I'm not really sure when that's going to happen (December is getting to be a bit of a busy month for me with other stuff), I figured releasing something now was better than nothing.
Anyways, here's some random details about the character that I've scribbled down. This is all still very rough and subject to intense revision.
Jessica is a 28 year old meteorologist and ultra focused "weather nerd" who's obsessed with all things atmospheric. Her determined demeanor is often mistaken for a certain level of sternness, but underneath her calculating exterior is someone who's slightly more laid back and often daydreams about flying through the very things she spends her days studying. She's been known to go out of her way to travel down to various remote locations, only to spend the next week inflating weather balloons and watching them drift up into the sky ("Gotta make sure it's done right, otherwise you can't trust the data!").
Her final university thesis included designs for a single person "flight suit", which more or less consisted of an old pilot suit hooked up to an intricate system of helium tanks, hoses, weather balloons, and straps. While Jessica claimed she only wanted to build the suit so that she could study rare weather phenomena up close, this may or may not have been an excuse for her to finally experience something she'd dreamed about so much. For obvious reasons, the suit was never built, but the designs were still published in her thesis nonetheless- earning her a certain reputation within the scientific community for "having her head stuck in the clouds".
Incidentally, it was this very same research that provoked another certain individual to reach out and contact Jessica. While Vanessa had already perfected the art of what Jessica desired so greatly, she couldn't quite figure out how to predict her high altitude trajectories and determine where she would inevitably touchdown. What Vanessa really needed was a navigator- someone who knew the air and all it's various temperaments... Someone who could plan accordingly and easily hit a target hundreds of miles away. One might even say that the subsequent friendship was a "match made in heaven", and resulted in Jessica getting more than her fair share of first person weather observations up high in the sky.
