More random Houdini stuff

More random Houdini stuff, this time with particles.

Unfortunately the render is a bit noisy since Arnold seems to have some issues with... uh... "millions of particles", in that it tends to crash pretty hard- I suspect I'm just doing something wrong or I don't yet know how to create the overall effect I'm looking for without having that many particles in the scene.

Nevertheless, particles (and pyro stuff) is pretty fun to play around with (so are liquid physics for that fact). I suspect I'll probably be using a lot of that in the future for various effects if the scene and pose can make use of it. The rest of Houdini is pretty weird to work with, but I'm enjoying it so far. A lot of it makes sense once you learn to take a step back and try to view problems from a different perspective, and I'm pretty sure there's going to be a lot of stuff I'll be able to do that I couldn't before in C4D.

I'm pretty much starting from scratch as far as the UI, terminology, and workflows are considered. Houdini is so unlike C4D that not much transfers over UI wise, however a lot of the underlying knowledge that 3D makes use of in general (which I only really know from writing plugins for C4D) is still the same between either application. It's really just a different UI with a different way of organizing everything, but where C4D might have a single button to perform certain tasks, you'd land up with half a dozen nodes in Houdini to do the same thing (which can be both a blessing or a curse- you get access to a ton of information in Houdini that can be tapped at any point to change how things work or implement your own modified workflows, but at the same time it takes a slightly longer to setup a lot of common things that other applications can do with a single mouse click).

Are there any commonalities between the software suites? Or is it really starting from scratch in terms of UI, terminology, etc?

Dan
