This reminds me a bit of the Hyperbole and a Half post on depression. Basically feeling so numb and detached from the world that at times it feels almost protective. I guess especially when you're also suffering from anxiety and overwhelming self-consciousness, feeling nothing at all can be a relief

I used to feel like that, and yeah there are times I kind of miss certain aspects. But I'm too busy still recovering lol.

The sensation of numbness & listless under stress is a conditioning of how the brain repeatedly release chemicals under a duress lifestyle. The brain hardwires coping mechanisms along side these repeats of releasing stress chemicals. Add the addition outside chemical introduction with these moments & it builds over time a Pavlovian effect to the release of stress chemicals.
