Blue Velvet SCARRED Me! (Movie Commentary)

Thank you for doing this. It got me to watch the film - Which I loved but it was a bit disturbing in the most artistic of ways. And RIP David Lynch. I just found out after watching the film (before watching the reaction) that he passed away a month ago. Damn. That's sad. Twin Peaks is a remarkable show. It isn't that long. If you don't have time to watch and produce reactions, I highly recommend just watching for your own sake. It has a lot of the same vibes but it's still very, very different. I want to say something about what I just saw. It's like watching a moving painting with sound. Okay I need to go have me some nightmares and sleep on it. Thanks!! Have a good day.

okay I'm about to press play and watch this movie so I can see your reaction, Tyler. ngl. I'm a bit scared this might mess me up. I'll let you know.

R.I.P. David 💜 Lynch is my favourite director, and I'd love for you to watch the rest of his filmography. I watched Eraserhead when I was 13 and it absolutely entranced me - since then I've watched everything he's ever made. The only one I'm not a huge fan of is Dune, but even David wasn't happy with how it turned out. He has such a particular style, and I'm glad you vibed with it in this film - admittedly, this, The Elephant Man and The Straight Story are the most straightforward of his movies. It's up to you of course, but I'd recommend watching his films in release order to see how his style shifts and evolves over time. Twin Peaks is its own beast, and up there with Buffy and Angel as one of my favourite shows. I almost view TP as the culmination of Lynch's work, especially Season 3 (The Return) which was the last real film project of his life, so watching TP after watching all his films is the way to go I think. Frank is such a fascinating character, and I actually 100% agree with your analysis of him. The imagery of light and dark is very deliberate throughout, and used to great effect to contrast characters and environments. Lynch is the master of creating an unsettling tone, and some of his films border on horror sometimes. The image of Dorothy stumbling naked out of the darkness is haunting, and actually inspired by a real-life experience Lynch had during childhood when he and his brother saw a naked woman walking down a neighborhood street at night - he described the experience as incredibly traumatic to him. I really hope you'll check out more Lynch - I think you'll appreciate his filmmaking, and I'll get a kick out of your analytical style coming up against some of his more bizarre stuff like Inland Empire.
