Severance 2x8 [EARLY ACCESS]

Severance 2x8 [EARLY ACCESS]

I really enjoyed this episode a lot. The only downside of season 2 for me was Cobel not being on screen enough so I am grateful for an entire episode from her perspective. We learned a lot about her past and so many of her actions and reactions from season 1 can now be red in a totally different but logical way. We knew Lumon was capable of true horror but to have kids this young working 10 hours a day in an ether factory, praying to Kier as a god, making them believe Lumon is doing that for their good and making them becoming dependent to ether so they will be more easily manipulated is so more twisted than everything we saw before. I can understand why Cobel invented the severance procedure. Who would want to remember such an horrifying childhood ? She probably thought at that time that severance could allow other children in the same situation she was to have some semblance of childhood if they didn't remember their work day. Of course, the simple fact children should not be exploited like that didn't even occur to her because she was raised to believe it was a normal thing. I really think the invention of severance came from a good intention before it was twisted by Lumon to serve their best interests. And it needed Cobel to be fired for her to finally open her eyes (at least I hope she is now determined to bring Lumon down). As always, I enjoyed your commentaries a lot and I wonder how this season will end. Take care of yourself.

This is a weird episode, but also this is the episode where I got on board with Harmony as a human rather than a Lumon tool or the trope of a "big bad." There were some things that made me cringe here, such as the use of "Sissy." It's a cultural term for some families in the states (I've seen it more common in back woods and impoverished families.) The Mema's and Papa's and the Sissy. And I hated seeing a Sissy as this monstrous woman because I'm a "Sissy." Been called Sissy for most my life. -- Another thing that hit home with me about this episode was the town and the context of geographic space. We have "dead" towns like this throughout the U.S. and they all look different depending on what state they are in. But they do have a weird vibe to them. This energy like their soul has been sucked out. There's a guy that I work with who makes plans to visit these creepy towns and we tend to think of them as haunted places, when in fact they've just been stripped of opportunity and life from massive corporations coming in, using them up, and leaving. I wonder if towns like this exist in the UK. I know they exist in some European countries. I think that is why this episode pulled me in to Harmony's story and I cheered at her strength and ability to survive. She's a tough woman. But I really want to know what state this town is "supposed" to be in. Is it Maine? Cause I know what these towns look like in the South. Met people and seen documentaries on these towns in other parts of the country. I think it's Maine. Anywho, another great reaction. Can't wait for next episode. Time to go get severed and take calls for 10 hours. Have a great weekend.
