“No.”
Faced with Miss Ning’s question, Xiao Wu shook her head unhappily, scrunching up her delicate nose and explaining with a look of disdain:
“His Highness said that Tang Xiaosan’s teacher, that arrogant, one-eyed pig, has arrived here.”
Seeing her exaggerated expression and hearing the peculiar nickname, Ning Rongrong and Zhu Zhuqing both looked puzzled. Curious, Zhu Zhuqing asked,
“Xiao Wu, what do you mean by ‘pig’?”
“It’s Tang Xiaosan’s self-proclaimed ‘strongest theorist’ teacher!” Xiao Wu explained seriously, linking arms with the two girls.
“The strongest theorist?” Ning Rongrong furrowed her brows. “Why have I never heard of such a title?”
“That’s normal,” Xiao Wu said matter-of-factly. “He’s not anyone impressive, just a lifelong Spirit Grandmaster who can never break through.”
“A Spirit Grandmaster? That’s so weak.” Zhu Zhuqing’s eyes widened in surprise.
“Exactly! So weak, yet so full of himself,” Xiao Wu said with a nod, her voice tinged with annoyance.
Back when she was at Notting Academy, she had endured plenty of lectures from Yu Xiaogang, which had been unbearably frustrating.
As Xiao Wu led the two girls toward their dormitory, she added, “And his spirit skills are disgusting too.”
“His martial spirit is like a pig, and his skill is farting. He has to eat white radishes to recharge, and he can only use it three times a day.”
“What?!”
Hearing this, Ning Rongrong’s face twisted with discomfort. She groaned, “How could someone’s spirit skill be farting? Is he trying to gas his enemies to death?”
Zhu Zhuqing frowned as well. Just imagining the scene made her feel nauseous, though she managed to keep her composure. She continued to ask,
“Then why would Tang San take him as his teacher? Does his theory have any merit?”
“Nope, his theories are just like his farts—useless,” Xiao Wu replied immediately, rolling her eyes. She couldn’t resist mocking him further:
“He always says, ‘There are no useless martial spirits, only useless spirit masters.’”
“Huh? Then what does that make him?” Ning Rongrong blinked in confusion, surprised by his hypocrisy. She hummed lightly and added,
“Talk about blowing hot air. Isn’t he just calling himself useless?”
Zhu Zhuqing nodded in agreement.
“This academy is the worst! They even want him to teach us,” Xiao Wu said indignantly.
“What?” Ning Rongrong was shocked and repulsed. She immediately rejected the idea. “There’s no way I’m letting someone like that teach me!”
“Hehe, His Highness just said we don’t have to attend his classes if we don’t want to. We can train on our own, and they won’t dare to kick us out,” Xiao Wu relayed the message happily, her earlier frustration gone.
“That’s good,” Ning Rongrong sighed in relief.
Zhu Zhuqing, however, was curious about why Qian Renjue was even paying attention to such a small figure.
“Xiao Wu, is he also an enemy of our teacher?”
“Of course!” Xiao Wu nodded emphatically. “His Highness really dislikes him. He even blinded that guy’s right eye.”
Hearing this, Ning Rongrong and Zhu Zhuqing finally understood where the nickname “one-eyed pig” had come from.
Ning Rongrong’s eyes sparkled mischievously as she said,
“Should we find an opportunity to help His Highness vent his anger?”
“Good idea!” Xiao Wu’s eyes lit up with excitement. Her feet were practically itching to kick Yu Xiaogang a few times herself.
Before long, the girls arrived back at their dormitory.
Meanwhile, the so-called “arrogant, one-eyed pig” was sitting in Flender’s room.
Knock, knock!
Zhao Wuji knocked on the door, and hearty laughter came from within.
“Haha, Xiaogang, it seems they’ve returned safely. That knock is unmistakable.”
“Come in, Wuji.”
Pushing open the door curiously, Zhao Wuji saw an unfamiliar figure in the room.
The man had a crew cut, a stiff and pale face devoid of color, and an expression full of bitterness. His right eye was covered by an eyepatch, and his disfigured ears bore ugly scars.
He wore a scholar’s robe that was faded from washing but meticulously maintained. His back was straight, giving him an air of rigidity and stubbornness.
Though his overall demeanor seemed dull, there was a trace of sharpness in his single functioning eye.
“Ha ha,” Flender laughed, standing up and raising his hand slightly as he introduced:
“Wuji, this is my good brother Yu Xiaogang, Tang San’s teacher. Just call him ‘Grandmaster.’ He likes it when people call him that.”
Hearing Flender’s introduction, Yu Xiaogang’s pale face became even more rigid.
It was true that he liked being called "Grandmaster," but he didn’t want people to call him that just because he liked it.
What he sought was genuine respect from the heart!
Zhao Wuji looked at Yu Xiaogang, who had stood up with his hands behind his back, and suddenly recalled the rumors about him:
The former disgrace of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, a notorious fraud in the spirit master world.
He hadn’t expected Tang San’s teacher to be him!
No wonder Tang San had opted for a second white ring; the reason lay here.
While Zhao Wuji harbored disdain, he maintained his courtesy and extended his hands in greeting.
“Grandmaster, hello. I’m Zhao Wuji.”
“No need to be so formal, Immovable King. How are Xiao San and the others?” Yu Xiaogang replied calmly, shaking hands with him. Though his expression was stiff, he forced a smile, choosing not to mind Flender’s earlier slip of the tongue.
Having some acknowledgment was better than none.
One day, his disciple Tang San would prove to the world that he was no fraud, but a true Grandmaster!
Zhao Wuji hesitated for a moment before replying.
“Everyone else is fine... but Xiao San is not.”
Flender raised an eyebrow. “What happened? Did something go wrong during Oscar’s spirit hunt?”
Yu Xiaogang’s expression filled with concern.
Zhao Wuji shook his head, his bitter smile showing his helplessness, and recounted their encounter.
“... What? The Forest King? A 100,000-year Titan Giant Ape?!”
Flender was so shocked that his glasses almost fell off.
“What about Xiao San? Is he okay?” Yu Xiaogang, who knew better than anyone how terrifying the Titan Giant Ape was, went pale as his heart nearly stopped.
Flender was equally horrified.
“Are you sure you’re not mistaken?”
“Hmph! I got slapped away by it myself; how could I be mistaken?” Zhao Wuji snorted coldly.
After all, he had fought a 100,000-year spirit beast. That would surely spice up his future resume!
Zhao Wuji then explained in detail how he had managed to retrieve Tang San.
“Phew…”
Yu Xiaogang let out a long sigh of relief.
Thankfully, Tang San was only injured and not in any real danger.
Yu Xiaogang quickly regained his composure. Hands clasped behind his back, he adopted a stern demeanor, turning to Flender.
“If you want me to stay, you must personally accompany Xiao San during his future spirit hunts!”
Flender smiled and readily agreed. “Rest assured. Once he reaches level thirty, I’ll personally escort him.”
“You should wait until he’s at least level forty,” Zhao Wuji interjected, sipping his tea before adding softly.
“What do you mean, Wuji? When Tang San left, wasn’t he only at level twenty-five?” Flender looked puzzled.
Yu Xiaogang, however, trembled slightly, sensing a possibility.
“I’m not sure myself,” Zhao Wuji admitted. “When I found him, he was indeed a Spirit Elder. Considering his severe injuries, I didn’t press for details.”
Flender suddenly recalled how Xiao Wu had benefited from a blessing in disguise and began speculating.
“Could it be that Tang San also stumbled upon some celestial herb?”
“No, that’s impossible!” Yu Xiaogang’s anxiety nearly burst forth as his expression betrayed his unease.
Flender was concerned. “What’s wrong, Xiaogang? Do you know why Tang San broke through?”
“How could this happen? How could Xiao San be so reckless!” Yu Xiaogang ignored the question, his pale face flushed with agitation as he collapsed into his chair.
“Xiao San, you fool!” Yu Xiaogang pounded the armrest of his chair in despair.
His pride and joy—his twin martial spirit disciple—had acted so recklessly. It was an unforgivable waste of potential!
To Yu Xiaogang, Tang San was his future reputation personified. The thought of anything going wrong was unbearable.
“Xiaogang, what’s wrong? Does Tang San’s breakthrough have hidden dangers?” Flender asked, utterly baffled.
Yu Xiaogang took a deep breath, suppressing his pain as a sinister smile appeared on his stiff face.
“Heh. Flender, you’re underestimating Xiao San!”
“If his martial spirit were just ordinary Blue Silver Grass, how could he be worthy of being my disciple?”
As he spoke, Yu Xiaogang’s face showed a trace of pride. He straightened his posture and turned his back to Flender and Zhao Wuji, hands clasped once more.
The two exchanged puzzled looks.
“Could Tang San’s Blue Silver Grass be a mutated martial spirit?” Flender speculated.
Zhao Wuji found the reasoning plausible and nodded in agreement.
Otherwise, he had never seen Blue Silver Grass cultivated to such a level.
Though the two white rings were unimpressive, the question remained: was Tang San’s third ring a hundred years or a thousand years old?
