So many characters

I've been writing and I'm going to be honest, its hard to keep a long scene going with 5+ characters in it.   It's easy to write simple dialogue that fits anyone, but when you are trying to write something that has that distinctive 'Sir Dalton' feel, you have to do a better job.

For example, let's say there was a ball on the ground in their path.

Zorlando would say something like, "I Zorlando have found a ball!"

Sir Dalton would step on the ball without noticing it, "What do you mean, a ball?"

SueLeeta would spot the ball and send her hunting pet to examine it and test if it was a trap. "Great now I'll have to summon up hunting dog 24."

Julia would look down upon the ball for the temerity of getting in her way, "I'm a princess, I don't care about stupid balls"

Shart wouldn't care about the ball, "Why the heck are you asking about a ball dum dum, did you lose one of yours?"

Badgelor would eat it.

I'm slowly cracking through the 70k word barrier, and my writing pace is picking up, but I keep going through bits of dialogue and rewriting them to get the feel just right.  I have a suspicion that this book is going to be much 'healthier than my last one with another high word count.
