2024-03-01 23:33:09 +0000 UTCyep you're correct. from a 2014 interview: "I started this series because I wanted to write a story about volleyball. I was a member of the volleyball club when I was student, and especially during my high school days, I only went to school for the sole purpose of playing volleyball. I am still attached and unable to let go of that period of time in my life, so via the medium of manga, I wanted to play a volleyball that would “come to an end once I lose” just once more."

2024-03-01 14:14:14 +0000 UTCI know this is late, but when they were talking about baseball, it reminded me of Ace of the Daimond, an anime very similar to Haikyuu, but for baseball.

2024-01-07 22:24:59 +0000 UTCThat cozy meal scene at the end was nice. The mangaka does a great job of portraying the underlying feelings surrounding the matches. Especially from the viewpoint of those that are overlooked or had to give up on volleyball. I wonder if the mangaka had a love for volleyball that he wanted to keep alive.

2023-12-15 10:39:30 +0000 UTCbtw kageyama wanted to go to shiratorizawa not seijoh. They are the strongest in the prefecture, seijoh has never gotten past them

2023-03-07 22:13:24 +0000 UTCDon't understand people who are annoyed over you reacting on a reaction channel... that's exactly why we watch in the first place, to see your reaction. So the more you react the better and more hype it gets. Dattebayo

2023-03-05 04:53:59 +0000 UTCJust to answer Michael question on how noya knew the ball was going out on oikawa serve. It’s actually pretty easy. So basically if the libero is positioned correctly which would be close to the back line if the ball is high for example shoulder height then you know that if you leave it it’s gonna go out where as If it’s towards your hands then it’s going to be in.

2023-03-04 18:25:37 +0000 UTCTo clear it up Senior High School has 3 years. 1st years - Hinata, Kageyama, Tsukishima, Yamaguchi 2nd years - Tanaka, Nishinoya, and the other three 2nd years(they have not been formally introduced) 3rd years - Daichi, Suga, Asahi, Kiyoko(the girl manager) Also Oikawa is a 3rd year in Aoba Johsai. He is 2 years older than Kageyama so it is also Oikawa's last year to compete in the Nationals. The Interhigh Nationals is the 3rd years last chance to go and win the Nationals before they prepare for graduation exams. There still is a Spring Nationals to compete in the same year. However, seniors do not usually stay for the Spring Nationals as it is very close to the Graduation exams and they would not have fully enough time like other students to prepare for the exams if they were to train and compete in the preliminaries, the tournament and the Nationals itself. The time other students spend to study and prepare for graduation exams, they are busy training for the Spring Nationals and teachers usually do not advise seniors to continue club activities since it is a very important exam for students.

2023-03-04 12:45:44 +0000 UTCThird Years = Seniors. There are Four in the volleyball club currently. Daichi, Suga ,Asahi, and Kiyoko (female manager). I won't tell you if they stay or not, that would be a spoiler. I wonder, will they continue to play in volley ball club or leave it and focus on their studies.

2023-03-04 11:36:31 +0000 UTCI was hoping you would have posted episode 25 as well so that next week when you do the next three episode of Haikyuu they were all Season 2 not the last one of Season 1 then the other 2 were Season 2. But I can understand that you want to keep it to just 3 episodes per week. I have enjoyed watching your reactions to the BEST anime ever so very much and I can't wait to watch the next 3 episodes and Season 2 in my opinion was/is the best season. I am so very happy that you both love and respect Oikawa. Not many people see him they way you guys do and it is very refreshing to see you guys on team Oikawa with everyone else who is.

2023-03-04 03:59:42 +0000 UTCit is really fun watching you guys reacting to this episode, because it was the same for me :D. Also, Oikawa and Iwa-chan (Iwaizumi) are both seniors, which means this is their last year as well.

2023-03-04 03:21:40 +0000 UTCI know a lot of people have probable explained the whole 2 tournaments in a year and that there are actually 3 seniors on the team so I won't explain it. But I do want to mention that Oikawa is actually a senior. He and #4 Iwaizumi are 2 years older then Kageyama. So this is actually his last year. Also that school wasn't the one Kageyama wanted to go to. The best school in the prefecture is the one that Oikawa is always losing too (shiratorizawa) and that's the school Kageyama wanted in to but was rejected.

2023-03-04 00:46:40 +0000 UTCYeah. Asahi, The captain, and Suga are all done. They're all seniors. So is the female manager.

2023-03-04 00:42:47 +0000 UTCThe thing I love about Haikyu is it's just good vibes all around, even the "villains" of the story end up being relatable and lovable in some way so there's no real negativity in the show. I only watched the whole series a few months ago but I think it may be my #1 because it's just all good fun and there aren't any episodes where you feel like it's filler.

2023-03-03 23:57:21 +0000 UTCSince this might get confusing in the future here's a very simplified breakdown of Japanese school year from what I've gathered (so anyone feel free to correct): SCHOOL YEAR STARTS around April 🌸. **Interhigh Tournament** happens basically during the "1st semester" of school. New school year, new teammates, everyone is together (We are here 📍) SUMMER BREAK ☀️(summer break does NOT mean the end of the school year like in USA) **Spring Tournament** happens during the "2nd semester". (As others have stated, 3rd years ("the seniors" Daichi the captain, Suga the other setter, Asahi the ace, and Kyoko the manager) are HIGHLY encouraged to not participate in sports clubs (unless they plan to go Pro) so they can focus on studying. This ends up giving the 2nd or 1st year benchwarmers more opportunities to play as starters since a lot of 3rd years will leave) SCHOOL YEAR ENDS around March 🎓
andIJDC
2023-03-03 23:53:24 +0000 UTCUsually liberos know when a ball will be out based on the height of the ball as it crosses their path. You’re taught if it’s head height let it go. (rule of thumb of course)
Cody Wild
2023-03-03 23:44:33 +0000 UTCSpatial awareness is what Noya has to know if the ball is too high and fast relative to his position on the court and knowing where the back line is almost instinctively.
Thomas Rex
2023-03-03 23:03:18 +0000 UTCI don't think Dateko's third years saying that it was "the end of third years' season" was a matter of "school policy" but rather them making a statement that this was ultimately all their personal decision (which is why the second years seemed almost reluctant to accept that decision at first)
andIJDC
2023-03-03 22:55:40 +0000 UTCIf I'm not wrong, in Japan, you commit to a sport the entire year. Unlike in the states, where you can play one sport per semester. So the underclassmen for sure will still be playing in the next season, without having to wait until next school year.
Betty H
2023-03-03 21:23:10 +0000 UTCJust clarification for you guys: - Both Middle School and Highschool in Japan are only three years each so all of the Third Year players are effectively seniors - Karasuno's Third Years are Asahi, Suga, and Sawamura Daichi (the captain) - At this time in season 1 the audience is aware that some team's seasons DO end at this tournament (examples being the karasuno girls team and sawamura's friend's team) but there is still a follow up tournament within the same season during spring - Apparently each school's team has a different policy on when the Third Year's season ends. An example is that after their losing match, Dateko's Third Years mentioned their season ends at this tournament and NOT at the following spring tournament - At this time the audience is unaware of Karasuno's policy on the matter

klub
2023-03-03 20:51:08 +0000 UTCThere's 3 years of highschool in Japan, and 2 tournaments every year, we were watching the first tournament of the year, there's still a second one. There's also a culture where every senior drops their extra-curricular activities for the second half of the year, so they can study for college, which is very competitive in Japan. This means that Asahi, Daichi and Sugawara are now expected to drop their volleyball activities and focus on their studies, but they are allowed to continue playing volleyball if that's something they want, but they will be risking to severely undermine their future careers if they choose to do so. If Ron is reading this, try to imagine how you would have felt if someone told you that you should drop you last tournament of highschool so that you could focus on your studies, and how that would have made you feel. I played volleyball on highschool, and I'm not a violent person, but I would have repeatedly kicked that person's balls, Denji style. P.S: That's a very common dilemma sports anime have to approach.

2023-03-03 20:07:50 +0000 UTCLoved your reaction to this. All the back and forth thinking they might win, haha. This show really knows how to string you along, it's awesome. I'm glad that even though you predicted they would lose you still shared the bitterness Karasuno felt... Next season's gonna be good. The animation for the final god-like quick is so sick. Also love Take-chan's talk with the boys outside, to get them back on their feet. Wholesome AF. And the end scene at the diner is heartbraking. Nice job guys! S2 lesh go! 🔥🔥🔥

2023-03-03 19:49:09 +0000 UTCThe third years are the ace Asahi, the setter Suga, and the captain Daichi. Both Middle School (i.e. Junior High) and High school is for three years each.

2023-03-03 19:49:03 +0000 UTCThe school that Kageyama wanted to go to, but couldn't get in is Shiratorizawa, not Seijoh. Shiratorizawa is the school which has Ushijima, the guy that Oikawa really wanted to defeat but has never been able to.

2023-03-03 19:31:29 +0000 UTCReally love Ron's predictions for the show as a whole, can't wait to see what happens xD. The ending scene though, always makes me tear up 🥹

2023-03-03 19:25:22 +0000 UTCMan this is one of the best episodes to me as it calls back to episode 16 (Winners and Losers). There will always be Winners and Losers. Today they were unfortunately the losers. Also the final scene with them all eating and crying makes me cry every single time.

2023-03-03 19:18:26 +0000 UTCThere's no time limit for the match as a whole, but there are time limits on specific things, like the time you have to serve after the whistle, and on time-outs and stuff. The longest volleyball match ever lasted for 85 hours I believe.

2023-03-03 19:00:04 +0000 UTCSo for reference about how tournaments work strictly volleyball from my knowledge. There are 3 nation tournaments but haikyuu only covers 2. We have the inter high held and spring high and then the third one. We just went through the miyagi inter high qualifiers where Aoba Josai just beat Karasuno. So at this point. Season 2 will cover the spring high tournament qualifiers which is not to get confused with the spring high national tournament this is to just see which schools can qualify to get into the tournament. So saying that the seniors of Karasuno still have another shot to play and continue with the upcoming second season for the spring qualifiers. Edit: If anyone wants to reply an fix any mistakes please do so not sure how accurate any of this is but from my knowledge I believe this is how it work and if anyone wants to word it better feel free to also do so.

2023-03-03 18:49:41 +0000 UTCThe school Kageyama wanted to go to wasn't Seijoh (Oikawa's school), it was Shiratorizawa, it is the best high school in the Miyagi prefecture (that is the school were Ushijima, Oikawa's rival, who was shown in some previous episodes before, goes to) In Japanese high schools it is only three years, and Asahi, Suga (the other setter) and Daichi (the captain) are the only third years in the Karasuno volleyball club. And Ron, Oikawa is also a third year btw xD

2023-03-03 18:25:24 +0000 UTCThis episode man that ending scene, know the feeling well. The end of an era is the best way put it. When I left the Marines I knew I wasn't gonna be a lifer and was excited AF, but goddammit when I finally arrived home it tore me up, end of an era of my life. Anywho, the show DOES get better and better! And pay attention to season 2 bc the best season (s3) a lot of it ties back to s2. Every episode of s3 is crazy hype!
