2025-03-21 03:29:22 +0000 UTCit is defeated in my opinion by manga such as AOT (or The Tatami Galaxy) I've never seen anything in which everything makes so much sense, every little details aren't forgotten and serve a purpose! Oda said himself that sometimes when people call something "an incredible foreshadowing" he just had no idea where this was going and he's just really good at tying loose ends. Like he introduce something, doesn't plan what to do with it and 3 years later if does something with it haha. And that's so good but also an issue I have with one piece, it's that Oda introduces A LOT but doesn't answer as much. He leaves so many things behind or unadressed for so long (like he can go 5+ years without ever mentionning something he introduced years ago) I also watched the fan letter recently and it also is the perfect way to illustrate the 2nd thing i wish was a bit better in OP, it's the way they show the poeple in the OP universe. Like the fan letter really shows the random marines dying in the conflicts pov and emotions we rarely see in the base manga. It feels a lot mopre "human" than one piece in which we mostly see badass people fighting with great powers and who are used to this harsh world. In the fan letter we get to see the soldiers and the civilians suffering and living through this AND how the strawhat affect people (with the little girl being a fan of Nami)

Finally, the connection between Laboon and Brook is revealed!!! 😭😭😭 Oda is an absolute genius when it comes to world-building in One Piece, and this is one of the main reasons I love the Thriller Bark arc so much. To put it into perspective, for you and Michelle, it’s been about a year and a month since this reveal. But for long-time One Piece fans who have been with the series for 25 years, there’s a 7-year gap between Episode 62, where we first meet Laboon, and Episode 353, when the connection between Brook and Laboon is finally revealed. For those following the show weekly, it's easy to see how some might have forgotten these details by that point and needed this refresher. I also understand that everyone has different tastes when it comes to anime, and that’s completely fine. It’s normal if one anime doesn’t suit someone’s preferences. However, what I can’t stand is when people trash other anime just because they don’t personally like it.

It's still fairly early in the series for you guys so this could be peak for you at this point in your journey. Whereas, others further along could be more attached to a different arc instead. All in all, by the end of the arc, nothing happened... But that still doesn't change the significance and character building that happens in the arc

Sometimes Oda throws in hard foreshadowing such as Laboon, sometimes he doesn't with others instead opting with more short-term writing. That way the bigger reveal/planning feels bigger. I love when my prediction/theories are wrong, then Oda hit us with something better. Sometimes it fall flat, but Laboon/Brook was such a huge hit imo.
