Kind of like a genjutsu type thing. So whenever he takes the mask off you just see whatever is on your mind or something. That's just my theory since he changes his voice and stuff.

When it comes to nostalgia , bad ass characters, epic moments/fights Bleach is my #1 One Piece #2 Naruto #3 .....and im all caught up on all of them anime wise

I haven't read the manga or watched the anime in a while, but I bet some of the goofy moments are to pad out the episode's runtime in comparison to the speed at adapting the manga. I get this idea for the explanation behind this due to One Piece. Side note, but I would not the recommend One Piece anime to you based on your comment. It's like this but way more extreme with all the gags and goofy elements that serve no purpose other than padding

The MC always willing to get their asses kicked all over the place when they are clearly capable of doing more. like cmon...that finisher you just pulled...u could have done that half an hour ago and finished the fight but u had to get your ass handed to you for dramatic effect
