Yes, even the final battle wasn't really a battle at all. It just ended and a lot of fights either weren't shown or ended abruptly. The manga ending was rushed so that's why we're getting a lot of new content.

About your question at the end, there's a lost of anime-exclusive stuff in this season, but those scenes don't "change" things that happened in the manga but rather ADD more to it, since Kubo was sick during the ending of the manga he couldn't do everything he wanted to do, but luckily the studio is giving him the chance to fix that now.
