What's Coming to Shift+F1's Patreon in April?

Hey Patrons,

Danny here wearing my trusty Manor cap. Oh boy what a race eh? We'll get to that...

I wanted to give you an update on some of the patron-only goodies coming your way this April, but had to wait until the first had past for fear of you thinking I was taking the piss.

So, what should you expect and when?

This week we have our next patron-only podcast which is a primer for the world of Endurance racing. Rob leads the pack as the three of us detail the drivers, cars and regulations for this unique style of racing. Expect that on your patron-exclusive feeds on Thursday

There's no race this weekend so what better time to publish our first Let's Play in a series I'm coining "F1 Game History". The first episode is an edited, 38 minute introduction and demo of the 1992 Geoff Crammond classic; "Formula One Grand Prix". That's what the image above is taken from. Expect that to be posted here on Sunday.

The following week we return to your regularly scheduled podcast with our thoughts on the madness in Bahrain and a primer for the weekend in China. After that we'll be publishing our Video Q&A.

We're also going to be updating the Patreon a bit this month and putting some more calls for feedback on the show format and tiers. We've had a lot of folks talking to us about what they'd like from the podcast and patreon - and internally we've been debating whether or not we should be doing them more regularly - so any help you can give us with feedback would be much appreciated. For one - should we post an update here when new regular episodes go live? We weren't sure if that was spammy as presumably you're already subscribed to the public podcast. Or perhaps a good idea to get some discussion going in the comments? Let us know if you have an opinion on the matter!

Oh and there will be another episode of F1 Game History out by the end of the month too as the last one was kind of a hold-over from our first month on Patreon. So expect a poll for that too. Or a "pole"? Does that work? Wordplay!

If you have any questions stick them in the comments below.

And more importantly, let us know what you thought of the Bahrain race :)

Danny

PS: We updated the "goals" on our Patreon homepage with a new 500 patron goal. Beer fans might want to check it out...

So, did that Video Q&A ever happen?

Tygre

Is there any chance at a Patron-only discord channel? Would make watching the races a lot more interesting to be able to discuss them live with people from this community - the r/formula1 crowd can be a little... overboard sometimes.

COMIN' RIGHT UP!

I think posting here for the regular episodes is a good idea, unless there's a traffic or analytics reason you'd like people to be funneled to the main site. If so, I don't mind going to the main site either. As to the race, absolutely heartbroken for Leclerc. The carnage in that race was really something to see. I bet the netflix guys were salivating. Both Haas boys really bottled it. Grosjean can't seem to finish a race, making me a very sad fan :(

Personally, I think posting the regular podcasts is a bit overkill but it's not the end of the world if other folks here want that. On a different topic, you know what I'd really like? The three of you talking over all the racing sim/gaming equipment out there and your experiences with setting up your own things. I heard Rob mention he's building a setup at home on a Waypoint podcast, and it got me into looking at some Fanatec gear for the upcoming codemasters F1 game. I don't even need consumer advice, I'm just curious what your takes are on the sim equipment rabbit hole, and your general experiences with "serious" racing gaming. Thanks guys! You've got me into F1 and love everything you do. P.S. I'd be willing to support a higher tier, I'm just not sure what the extra rewards would be ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I think regular podcast episodes should go up as well. At first I didn't think it was necessary, but having all the content in one place makes sense. Not to mention it's a nice spot to continue discussion As far as the the race.... LECLERC!!!! (ノಠ益ಠ)ノ彡┻━┻

Yes, post here when a new ep. goes up.

We need a French GP track walk! Circuit Paul Ricard is back baby!

Matthew Campbell

Personally I think the show is brilliant right now, I would just love more of it. Schedules dependent, I’d love to see a move back to a post-race/ pre-race individual shows, to help carry the momentum of the conversation.

Nat Crouch

Hey I got you that hat! <3 It would make sense to have a Public Feed for regular episodes and a Patreon Feed for regular + Patreon only episodes.

Mitchell Dise

Would love more shows - either split between a reaction show and a preview show, or dedicated shows to other racing series would also be great.

Matt Goulet

Personallly I would prefer 2 shorter podcasts separating post race & primers. Listening to the Australian post-race chat weeks after the fact was a bit jarring. Schedules permitting of course.

Liam Brown

Yes, please post the regular episodes to the Patreon feed! It gives a convenient place for discussion and helps make the Patreon more of a one-stop-shop.

Tygre

Would be great to have the public episodes in the patron podcast feed 🙏🏼 Excited to experience all the content yet to come from you guys 👌🏼
