The Italian Job (2003) - Film Review

Hey Patrons,

What happens when you swap Michael Caine with Marky Mark and have him play against a soon-to-be Oscar Winning leading lady who probably shouldn't be in this movie. It's The Italian Job (2003) starring several of your favorite characters in their least memorable performances.

But who cares when you have all this action in the streets of Los Angeles, and for a short time at the start, Italy.

Let's Jump in.

Just started listening, and want to help answer the questions of "why" this was re-made. You are probably right about a lot of the reasons you mention, but you're missing one of the biggest ones: the BMW Mini was launched right around the same time. Marketing!!!

There were three Italian Job themed rollercoasters that opened in 2005 when Paramount had a stake in a few amusement parks. Each train would look like the three blue, red, & white mini-coopers driving together and themed like it's part of a stunt driving sequence such as the track going around a helicopter and there being machine gun sound effects. But Paramount sold off their theme park division in 2006 so the branding had to be removed from a bunch of rides but that was usually just rubbing off the name (a Top Gun rollercoaster became "Flight Deck"). So in 2008, these are now named "Backlot Stunt Coaster", the colors of the cars were changed, and other direct references to the movie were made more generic.
