Lack of Diversity

I was realizing my game sort of lacks diversity. I wrote it about 15 years ago, and just sort of wrote it like for me. A white person. I wasn't even considering race or anything like that in the mix. As it stands now there are a few characters

Main character: Colleen - her art is already done so I'd like to keep her kinda as is.

Side Character: Brandon - I dont have his art yet, I did plan on having him more tanned skin.

Side Character: Sarah - I'm still working on her design, I could always redesign her to have more diversity but she does not show up much after the prologue until the second half of the story.

Teacher: He was originally designed blondish hair, green/blue eyes.

Main character antagonist? - He (and later family) I always designed as being white, we dont see his face much in the beginning, I may be able to adjust his design a bit, but I dunno, kinda have a certain vision.

Side characters: I've 3 side-ish characters that 2 are almost white pale, like snow pale. The other I was thinking maybe along Brandon's tan-ness.

But I dunno. I have such an attachment to at least Colleen, main antagonist, and the 3 side characters (which I've written their own story before this one) that I'm not sure I want to change those ones. I could def add more in the second half, but I'm not sure if I should change these? I think Brandon and Sarah are the easiest to change.
So I'd like your guys opinion

This is another worry I have. I feel like if its a side character, it wont be that big of a deal, as it wont feel forced.

You should be careful in forcing diversity, people can tell when you just race swap a character for the sake of it. If you're gonna add diversity, make sure you do your research, if it's not significant to the story then don't worry about it. People want interesting characters they can relate to, and that's usually regardless of skin color

I know what you're saying, but you also need to be true to your vision. There are always going to be people that criticize artists, regardless of their intentions.

I guess I'm just worried about people complaining lol

I say you should keep it the way you planned it. You can always do a more diverse project in the future if that's what you want to do :).
