It's time for the weekly...

❌🐦 TODEPOND TIMES ❌🐦

My new video is out! Have you seen it yet? There are spoilers below, so make sure you watch it first! (unless you don't mind spoilers)

You can watch it here: ✨ NEW Cellular Automata

Spot The Difference

It has been really nice to hear kind comments about the new video! I worked quite hard on the visuals, so I'm pleased that people seem to like it!

I wanted the video to be enjoyed by people with different levels of knowledge+understanding of cellular automata. Some people have never heard of 'cellular automata' before. And some people dedicate their lives to them.

For the people who are new to cellular automata... I hoped the video could be a fun visual feast, and an introduction to some of the different types of cellular automata out there.

For the nerdy cellular automata experts... I hoped that there were enough niche jokes+puns that they could spot. And I hoped it would be a fun challenge to spot all the ways that my 'knock-off' cellular automata differed from their real counterparts. If you're a massive nerd: Did you spot all the differences? Let me know if you did and you'll earn some bonus tode points.

I do worry a little bit... that some people may learn some misconceptions from the video. For example, what if people start using the 'fake names' that I used in the video? It'll probably be fine... right?

Now that the new video's out, it's nearly time to vote for the next-next video! The vote will be opened later this week!

Remember, the next video will be πŸ“Ί Screens in Screens in Screens (about fractals and the Droste effect). So you'll be voting for the video after that one!

To prepare, I've been thinking more about what videos I could offer. One of these potential videos is... πŸ† Top 99 ways to make Sand.

Originally, this video was just a joke idea. But I've been mapping out how it could work... The more I look into it... the more I think it's possible!

Let's say I choose a background track that has 128 beats-per-minute... so I spend (on average) 7.5 seconds on each sand variation (16 beats)... plus an intro+outro... that'll be around a 13-minute video.

We'll decrease the length of the sections as the video gets nearer the end to give a sense of progression (and the sands will get weirder too). Maybe this video is just a crazy/ridiculous idea... but I hope to make it one day!

What do you do with your emotions? Where do you put them? What am I talking about!?

Until recently, I was a teacher. I worked with children with additional needs - and they were all fantastic. Part of my job was helping these children to become experts at regulating their emotions. As a class, we learned how it's ok to feel any emotion, including anger, anxiety, loneliness, boredom. And we learned strategies that help to process these emotions, and to express them in a positive way.

When anger+anxiety start to appear... Some kids do some calm drawing+colouring. Some go outside for a bit of fresh air. Some... punch a cushion :)

All of this made me continually reflect - What about me? What do I do when I feel a bit 'off'?Well... what do you do? Do you call a friend? or escape online? or eat chocolate? (I do all three by the way)

Ok ok, let's get to the point now... My point is this: I think I process a lot of my emotions by making little youtube videos. I can take all my uncertainty, self-doubt, anger and wonder, and put it into a video. And then I feel better again!

I hope you have something that works for you too :)

Thank you so much for supporting me, my projects, and my videos! I'm really pleased that people seem to enjoy the new one, and I can't wait to make the next one now! I hope you have a great week, wherever you are in the world. ❌🐦

Great! Music is a big thing for me :) And thank you! Yes I think it's quite similar to the time travel one too! They're both about attempting to do something, and failing repeatedly. But at the end... you look back and realise you achieved it already (in multiple ways) - and had some fun.

I often like listening to music or escape online when feeling a bit off. Also I think the latest video had a great idea tying it together. Kinda similar to the time travel video from earlier. There is good structure, and it's always fun to see an idea develop.
