TheDataDB October 2020 Newsletter

Intro

Welcome to our Bi-Monthly newsletter, a particular large welcome must go to all the new users signed up recently. We’ve been answering questions via email and social media channels all month, from people just starting out, all the way up to advanced developers looking for something extra. We're always happy to help out and hear about the projects that developers come up with!

General updates

The sites continue to grow exponentially and that’s thanks to all the supporters, the more support we get the more we can increase server capacity and produce new content and features for you guys.

We also attended the biggest API show APIWorld this year (all be-it virtually) and had some good conversations with companies about site monitoring, image compression and creating a successful API business. We always try and be affordable as a site, so it was good to be able to mix with the bigger commercial players who charge hundreds or thousands of dollars a month for access to their data. We will always remain true to our roots and charge as little as possible while keeping the free tiers.

TheCocktailDB

Again, this month we have been concentrating on content, adding new cocktails with beautiful images. The database continues to grow rapidly. With the end of the summer we added lots of fresh new cocktails to the database. Look out next newsletter for some winter warmers!

TheMealDB

We’ve also added new content to TheMealDB site including a vast set of new ingredients as well as new recipes. This month we concentrated on adding Japanese recipes to our site.

TheSportsDB

Our sports Website TheSportsDB has continued to receive a number of new features as users request more and more as the site grows. We’ve added a new Statistic browser page to check the latest player stats as well as starting work on team stats.

Other new features include the backend work on storing templates for event artwork. This feature means that once an event artwork is uploaded it can potentially be re-used in the future automatically without needing to upload again. We’ll store the artwork as we go along and introduce the templating feature to moderators next year.

Also we would like to point out our “Match Center” which contains all the YouTube highlight links for sports events including all the major sports who now publish to YouTube. The quality is excellent and best of all its free! Luckily we are here to index those highlight videos to make it easy to find for any sport.

We also fixed a bug where the team kit wasn’t saving to the archive properly. This should mean that kits going forward are saved in the archive for that season automatically. One day we should have a complete archive of all season kits.

On the data side of things, our users have been hard at work on Spanish La Liga player artwork including renders and cut-outs, golf and motorsport results and Event thumbs. Particular thanks go to the users uploading templates for event artwork that are all unique to the leagues and in high resolution.

Performance has also markedly improved after we made a number of tweaks to the team and event pages. All the new features had slowed it down a little but we take great pride in making our sites fast and easy to use. Its all about our community so we will keep improving on these things to help our users.

TheAudioDB

We continue to bug fix TheAudioDB site with a few of the remaining bugs sorted this month. We’ve also finally added support for editing lyrics to the track page. A number of reviews have popped up recently written by our users as well as some more users uploading 3D covers. Soon the Kodi HTPC software scrapers will support these new 3D artwork types so we hope to see renewed interest in uploading these types of awesome custom cover arts.

We took a look at improving the performance of the backend server database and are happy to report much faster load times on our API as a result.

Check out the latest logos produced by our users in high quality downloadable PNG’s. These are added and updated daily for new and existing artists.

And just because they look great, check out the 3D album art including discart and covers! All available in High Quality PNG format:

Thanks for reading, we'll update again in a few months. Lots of things are being cooked up...

- Zag and the team.

Hi. I paid my subscription yesterday, but unfortunately I still haven't received the api-key. What's the problem?

Askanaz Ovsepyan

Well, you can use the data without the image.

Jonathan D'Amours

How are you still adding so many new cocktails without confirmed image copyrights? For people in countries where it is important to follow strict copyright laws those are basically unusable. How is your undertaking of creating more creative commons licensed photos progressing?
