We not only lit advent candles at church on Sundays, but my family also had out own Advent wreaths at home and lit them, did a reading, and sang a carol as a family at every Sunday dinner. Now, as an ex-Christian, I have reclaimed Advent for my family. We still use thr same Advent wreath and style of candles but now I focus on the meanings of what they all represent. So each Sunday we talk about what Hope, Peace, Joy, and Love mean to us. Then on Christmas day we talk about what Christmas means to us. It is a special way to prepare for the holiday and celebrate the whole season.
