November Q&A - leave your questions here!
Added 2020-11-23 02:00:53 +0000 UTCHey!
Well, I know that this is late, but I wasn't entirely sure when my wife and I were going to have our baby and I think that time is upon us. But! That doesn't mean I won't be able to get to doing the Q&A sooner than later. I may need to do it in small chunks and edit the video together, but it will get done!
Regardless, I have a bunch of stuff lined up so that the posts don't stop coming in and you all will have the regular onlyfans content that you come to expect.
As always, feel free to ask me anything you like! This can be in regards to things you've seen in recent videos, approaches I have to doing art, or really anything related to life or the pursuit of stolen vehicles in a high-speed chase where cash is your only motivator.
I hope you're all doing good!
Thanks as always for your support,
Dave

Hey Dave. Congrats on your second baby. I wish you and your family all the best. Hope one day you'll be able to eat all the heavy cream and not worry about having a heart attack. Quick question (I hope). Did you ever have a problem with being really ocd with your lines? If so how you overcame that issue. I struggle with it quite a bit lately. My drawings look really nice, but take ages to make. Any tips on finding that perfect balance between looks and efficiency. Thanks.

2020-12-08 14:36:48 +0000 UTCHello Dave! This is my first time on Patreon and I regret not joining earlier on. I am so excited for all the content you're sharing here. So much to learn from you. I have a quick question. Do you follow any stretching exercises? Or take frequent breaks? I tend to work for longer hours myself but once in a while, I get either pain around my neck/ back .. sometimes eyestrain .. it depends. But taking frequent breaks helps a lot now. I wonder if you have any regimen you follow while working. Or do you just go straight into work from 10 to 6 as you said. Thanks a lot. I am really inspired by your work ethic. Much respect! And greetings from Morocco.

2020-12-08 09:59:55 +0000 UTCHey Dave, recently listened to an old vid of you and Dan talking. Is King Arthurs court going to make an appearance in fuck you? Also did you end up getting a pre-nup? I didn't, I just went the route of not accumulating any assets or amounting to anything worth coming for. congrats on mini Dave #2 loving the patreon content so far, doing great

2020-12-06 20:37:03 +0000 UTCI have a small question, with such large file sizes that you work with. what has been the best way to send these files over to clients?

2020-12-06 00:37:22 +0000 UTCHey Dave. I imagine working on a piece like the Castlevania one which took a few months that its easy to lose track of things in your process. My question is How do you keep track of what you are doing when you know you're gonna be working on a piece for like a month or longer. do you leave yourself notes on the PSD, or did you make a schedule for it.

2020-12-04 09:45:14 +0000 UTCCongrats on becoming a father ! :) Another question from me. Can you recommend comics, artbooks , anime etc. which are good to reference for character poses and good compositions where the main focus is the character? Also what is your research process on coming up with good poses and compositions before you start working on an image ? Thanks !

2020-12-03 23:08:21 +0000 UTCHey Dave, I don't know if you've ever had a problem with cluttering up your workspace, but my desk goes through phases month to month of being completely spotless to every empty spot getting filled with coffee cups and Espolòn bottles until there is literally no room anymore. The worst example of this was a couple weeks ago when I ran out of desk space to put my coffee down, so I tried to balance the full cup on top of a bunch of other unevenly shaped empty cups, and I just ended up spilling coffee all over my jeans and burning the shit out of myself. Ever had any strange/bad habits crop up after working from home for so long?

2020-12-02 23:26:59 +0000 UTCWhat's up Wrong hole Joel, got any tips on finding the right pressure sensitivity, never feels right to me. Also I'm using your coloured pencil approach for work and really liking it.

2020-12-02 18:03:02 +0000 UTCCongrats on being a father of 2! How's your sleep schedule? Do you sometimes fall asleep with the wacom pen in your hand?

2020-12-02 01:40:10 +0000 UTCHi Dave! congrats on your new born! Man your artwork is fantastic, my question: Given the amount of detailing you do and all the crosshatching, Do you suffer from tendonitis? does it affect you? and if so, how do you deal with it?

2020-12-01 18:13:08 +0000 UTCHey Dave, considering your recent compositions and love for designing, detailing and dynamic posing, would you aim to see your OC's or licensed designs brought to collectibles or as limited figures. I easily see that transition happening!

2020-12-01 12:55:04 +0000 UTChey dave, Your skull and shark illustrations really captured my imagination. Id really like to know what the basic story idea was behind those characters. If you've already spoken about this somewhere and don't feel like repeating yourself, just tell me where.

2020-11-30 20:28:03 +0000 UTCI am 29 and I have been having a hard time with my girlfriend of 2 years lately. She feels neglected a lot of times and that I'm not putting enough effort into the relationship. And its kinda true, I am working a lot and tend to be a hermit trying to get all this stuff done, managing my art biz, making videos, fulfilling orders and commissions, and managing future gigs. How do you juggle being a husband as well as what you do as an artist and biznesman? Was there a time when you werent as effecient or settled that your gf would get mad at you for working all the time?

2020-11-30 20:27:41 +0000 UTCI tend to be pulled in many directions all the time in terms of interests and making things creatively. Ive been a professional mural artist and Youtuber for about 6 years now, but always find myself dreaming about other mediums or projects, like statues or comics or filmmaking. I want these interests to play into each other but be able to focus in more. Does this happen to you and how do you reign it in so you don't get distracted by the many passions or interests that get sparked within you?

2020-11-30 20:24:16 +0000 UTCThe lighting and forms on Richter’s face is amazing! Holy Moly! Could you explain your approach there? And is there a reason why u went with a more mature muscular look on his face? I’m already stunned by the WIP can’t wait for the finished one. It’s probably gonna blow me away.

2020-11-30 01:24:22 +0000 UTCSup Dave, would you and Dan consider making the Steve Litchman IP into a narrative/social game? Kind of like those Tell Tale/dating sim type games? I feel like Steve could fit well into that game genre. Or maybe a close your own story type of interactive comic? Love everything you do here, don’t you ever stop!

2020-11-29 17:30:36 +0000 UTCHello Dave, and thank you for replying to my previous questions <3 What do you think is the main reason most people find it difficult to transition from 'photo studies/master studies' or 'copying' to 'application' and using all they learnt in their own personal illustrations? And what might be a potential solution?

2020-11-29 07:16:36 +0000 UTCHey dave, you ever read the manga pyuu to fuku jaguar?

2020-11-28 19:57:51 +0000 UTCHey Dave, was wondering about the Logan piece you did on iPad Pro. How was your experience working on that with the iPad? What you liked about using an iPad Pro to do it, what you didn't like and anything else you wanna add about working on iPad Pro.

2020-11-27 22:43:57 +0000 UTCHey Dave ! I was wondering how do you breakdown the idea of exactly what a client wants, in order to execute the commission perfectly ?

2020-11-27 07:20:02 +0000 UTCHi Dave, not a question but i just finished sitting through the realistic Orc tutorial and i wanted to say good job on that - the thing that'll probably stick with me is the line "... there are people who dress up in animalsuits and have sex with each other ... then you can be anything" oh and good job on all the recent pieces

2020-11-26 20:22:02 +0000 UTCHiya Dave. This is probably my third or fourth favorite OnlyFans page. Keep it filthy, dude! Anyway, have you found a good approach for working out problem areas in drawing or painting? Like, if you just can't get something like hands or metal to look right, do you have a study process that you come back to when you really want to nail a certain subject? Second question: Did you do anything special with display calibration or color management before you got your self-calibrating monitor? How important is your monitor's color accuracy if you don't plan to print your art? P.S. I would never presume to tell you that you should name your child Skeletor Rapoza. I'm just saying it's an option.

2020-11-25 20:34:28 +0000 UTCI can’t seem to get your water Color brush on clip to blend properly... can you do like a “basics video” with the brush to render on some basic forms? That would help a lot! Thanks!

2020-11-25 14:11:14 +0000 UTCCould you give an example of a script page for either Steve Lichman or Fuck You!? I want to write my own scripts for a comic/manga but I have no idea where to start

2020-11-25 01:58:00 +0000 UTChey Dave, i've been chasing career in art my whole life, it's been 5 years since i started to paint and my hole life of drawings, but still i'm not good enought, i can't take one single job. I'm from brazil and i am in the college thinking that probably i will never be good enought to actually make any money on it. The economic situation of the country together with the really small industry constantly worries me. I wonder if you ever felt this way, if you felt like it would not go right and you would die in hunger. If your answer is yes, i would like to know how you dealt with it.

2020-11-24 20:12:22 +0000 UTCDo you have any tips for avoiding burnout or discouragment while exploring new techniques? I've been transitioning to photoshop from CSP and while I love it, it definitely has it's own learning curve and quirks. It kinda feels like building a house out of cards but the cards are all different sizes and textures and get stuck to my hands. That aside, hope you're doing well and wishing your growing family the best!

2020-11-24 12:02:28 +0000 UTCHey Elliott, --I mean Dave! I think you mentioned this before, but can you talk about your experience in getting a license for your fanart to make it legal to publish commercially? Or just talk about the processes needed if you have looked into it. I'm very glad Patreon has opened this avenue for you, but I've always wondered if you toyed with this idea or is it just too cumbersome at this point. I also love doing retro game fanart and look up to you a lot, your successes are so deserved. Thanks for carving out the time for us, congrats to both you and Kim on your new baby! ♥ [edit] I remembered what I wanted to ask before, can you please do a bookshelf tour sometime? It's always fun to know artist influences from the books they read or choose to put nearby. :D

2020-11-24 04:47:59 +0000 UTCHey Dave, The Patreon is so awesome, thanks for all of the stellar content man:) My question is, as an artist how much of your work comes from illustration vs character concept art? Are you able to make a living solely as an illustrator or is it tough? Thanks Dave! P.S. Congrats on the newborn Rapoza!

2020-11-24 00:42:27 +0000 UTCHey dave got a few questions if you don't mind! Wondering if you could expand on the idea of how your OCD has affected your art, I see a lot of great artists don't seem to just be obsessed with art, but also have really obsessive personalities in general, and a lot of people who are stuck and frustrated seem to lack this way of being. Any thoughts? Numero TWO. Was it ever hard working around people for you? I know you've streamed a lot and I remember you even having your ex hanging out sometimes in the really old days, do you feel it affects your quality at all? I've always worked alone and whenever I have someone around, my quality is never 100% I feel. A small part of my brain is always on whatever else is going on in the room, and I feel like I can't hit the same quality/speed. Especially awkward, when you're in the first stages of a piece and everything's uncertain, you're doing those ugly comp sketches and looking at stuff for inspiration. Any tips? Last one! What did you think of the 1995 power rangers movie? 5 year old me cringed so hard at that one song they had for alpha that just goes "aye yai yai yai" the whole time. I could see you jamming to it. Thanks for everything you've done for the community since the old CA.org days, always a huge inspiration! and congrats on the new baby boy!

2020-11-23 20:41:13 +0000 UTCHey Dave, I hope you're doing well! I'm having real fun in this patreon, especially love listening to your crazy childhood stories. As for my question, what's your approach to storytelling and conveying emotions in a piece? I feel like I struggle with it a lot and usually it's just a character in a cool pose. Thanks again for all the content!

2020-11-23 18:26:41 +0000 UTCHeyo Dave, thanks for answering my question on the last Q&A. I've been ballin' it up with your awesome Arachnid Rider suit in Spiderman and I was wondering if you could share some of your thought/design process when designing such a "drastic" alternate skin for an established character like that. Hope all else is well and good luck with your son's birth. Thanks for all the creamy Patreon goodies and can't wait for more Fuck You! content. (Also that Knullified Wolverine cover is a 10/10 masterpiece)

2020-11-23 15:13:46 +0000 UTCHey Dave, been a big fan for a long time. I was just wondering, when does Balrog come? And if you don’t know, can you point me to someone who does? Thanks!

2020-11-23 14:47:33 +0000 UTCHey Dave as someone that is trying to break into the concept art industry doing characters what would your advice be? Specifically on what to show on my portfolio. Also what makes a great character design in your opinion?.... Thanks for the cream.
Bruno Diaz
2020-11-23 11:45:30 +0000 UTCHeyo! Dave, can you detail the best aspects of your favorite artists? Like I know you worship Drew Struzan’s highlights, but do you love Hogarth knuckles? Do you love Jim Lee’s squints? That kinda stuff. Best of wishes for the baby!

2020-11-23 07:34:32 +0000 UTCWhat’s up Dave, I want to say congrats on your second kid coming soon. (I just had my second in Aug.. but she is currently in the NICU.. hopefully be home early Dec, you’re Patreon has been great in taking my mind off things, thank you sir) My questions is: If you could witness any event, past, present or future in a 24 hr period, what would it be? (caveat) you can only witness it, meaning you can't interact/be hurt by it etc. (for example: i want to see when the meteor hit and destroyed the dinosaurs.)

2020-11-23 05:26:54 +0000 UTCDearest David, I came for the art but I stayed for the cream. Just joined and am watching the entirety of the Patreon content from the first post to now. Joining your Patreon has been one of the things I’ve enjoyed most this year. In one of the videos you mentioned Yu Yu Hakusho, good taste, incredible anime, easily top 5. It’s a shame so much modern anime just outright sucks. Things I’m wondering about: 1. Any further thoughts on another membership tier, possibly with art mentoring or guidance, critique, feedback, etc.? 2. I’d be down to participate in Rapoza themed art challenges or something in the future, that’d just be dope af, no rewards necessary.

2020-11-23 03:05:21 +0000 UTCHey Daddy Dave, we at the discord have been wondering if you'd give us either bi-weekly or monthly drawing/painting prompts. Kick some life into it etc Unrelated question: If one gets hired to do a comic book cover what's the contract process like? Do I write a contract or do I just sign their's? Do they just exchange a sweaty wad of cash for the illustration at a Denny's parking lot? Am I dead?

2020-11-23 02:58:50 +0000 UTChey Dave! how you doing? i dont know if you already posted this, but where can i find about the dopest pencil brush configs? or are you just using the default brush? thanks! your work is awesome, keep up!

2020-11-23 02:18:14 +0000 UTCHey Dave, I love everything you post and I’ve been trying to get into drawing and specifically surrounding comic book illustration and I was wondering how to get started. Is there any recommendation or tips for what I should start to work on to structure my drawings?
