Knuckles painting process - pt. 1 & 2 - full video commentary

Here are the links to Part 1 & Part 2

Hey everyone! Hope you've been well! I'm back and I'm alive, thanks for sticking with me - today I've got a 3hr 30min video walkthrough of this knuckles painting I've been working on for a demo to show you all my current process - one that I believe is my best/most followable process so far.

The video covers the entirety of the steps involved as well as my thought process in choice of lighting/rendering/colors etc. My brushes for the video are attached below, I used Krita, Photoshop and Clip Studio for this one - feel free to use all of these like I did or stick to your process and follow the basic principles in the video above! Krita is free and I highly recommend giving it a shot, I love it.

All of the layers you see used in this video for each individual step is included in the two PSDs below - I recommend using Photoshop to open these files although you can look at them in Clip Studio(some of the adjustment layers will be messed up though).

Thanks as always for your support!

Dave

Oh hell yes! Thank you so much Dave, this tutorial is awesome! I know you have a set way of making your color bases, but I was wondering if maybe you'd find it useful checking out the "Lasso Fill" tool in CSP for the flat color stage if you haven't tried it out yet? It instantly color-fills whichever shape you draw with it, so it's a pretty handy thing for making quick bases or drawing in the simple shadows. I also recommend this little, but powerful guy available on CSP store under the name: No gaps close and fill + for erasing tool reference layer (隙間無く囲って塗る+消すツール 参照レイヤー用) Content ID:1759451 Tldr is, you set your lineart as a Reference Layer in CSP and use this tool pretty much the same way as a Lasso Fill. The difference is that it detects the borders of the lineart, so you can make really accurate and quick fills for every element of the drawing. It's one of my fave tools for CSP ever, crazy fast for line-heavy pieces especially in a combo with standard Lasso Fill! Thank you again for the tutorial and hope these badboys come in handy!

So happy to see you back Dave! Thanks for the tutorial!!

Thanks a lot for the tutorial! Krita is very hard and every time :( I feel that sketching and continuing to work in Clip Studio and Photoshop is much easier. Maybe something doesn't work right for me.
