A Couple o' Gayboys and The WOMEN...

This one needs a bit of context. It's a generational thing. Albert has grown up in an era where trigger warnings, gender norms and other cultural issues have varied widely from when Baz came up during the 70s-90s. On top of that, Baz's mom is a bonafide Golden Era Hollywood fanatic and amateur historian. She knows the goss on a lot of the actors in this film. I cover one of those (IRL) stories in the post reaction commentary regarding the actress Paulette "Honey, where I spit, no grass grows EVER" Goddard.
Because of this, Albert didn't get that women of that era lived very different lives. Nor did he get (for the first third of the film) where the catty humor came from. Once he realized that the humor was intentional and not meant to be taken seriously, he got into the film. But the separation in our generations defintely played a factor in his overall reaction.
Lastly, I'll mention that this movie is one of THREE films that came out that year that had the same directors attached to them - Gone with the Wind, The Wizard of OZ, and The Women. Each of these three films have gone down in history as the most influential films of that year. No film student worth their salt doesn't know the history/backstory of these three films.
Enjoy!
