What is obvious to some is not always obvious to others, and it's not a matter of who has the biggest brains. We all have strengths and weaknesses when it comes to observation.
Granted, I've often been baffled by what people can miss when it comes to reading other people's emotions, but I've equally baffled a great many people by the obvious things I've managed to miss.

A wicked stepFATHER, NO fairy godmother, and the Prince clued in from the start, among other things. Apparently a lot of the decisions in the writing was heavily influenced by the singing talent available in Rome in 1817.
