Look! A Catalina!
- At egscomics
Something something clever commentary that's unaffected by how tired I azzzzzz
Commentary
"And that's how I met your mother."
A more accurate version would have had the sandal simply landing on the king's lap, but no.
Sandal to the face.
Catalina's not wearing much of anything fancy, but I wasn't entirely sure what would be fitting, accurate, and/or potentially disrespectful, and I wanted Catalina recognizable as, well, Catalina.
So she's a business casual king (who might shop at Anachronistie and Finch).
My understanding is also that the king would have been a pharaoh, but what I read of Rhodopis simply said "king". I ultimately just went with a vague reference to Catalina's status in-comic.

@Foradain: well, this was clearly before planned obsolescence degraded shoe manufacturing processes so that everybody's shoes would wear out in a timely fashion rather than sometimes lasting literally forever.
I'm surprised a sandal fired from a cannon didn't *do* more damage. King Catalina must be super tough.

The idea of a random, disrespectful eagle just chucking some poor lady's shoe straight into the face of the king is hilarious to me

Although I think we had already seen Rhodopis, in her bath with her maid bringing her sandals.

"Pharaoh" is ancient Egyptian for "big house". It was used to indicate the king, the same way we use "The White House" to mean the presidential administrations in my country. I believe in ceremonies they just called him "king".

No, Clementine’s shoes were “#9 herring-boxes without tops-es”.

The name Rhodopis has something to do with the color red or roses, so it's appropriate to have Catalina in the story. :)

Catalina should have been in a warrior queen outfit. That’s Kingly/queenly and also still recognisable as Catalina.

At least it was a sandle to the face, rather than a boot to the head...

So, we're gonna need a lot of gun powder? Or do you mean canon? Either way, we'll get a bang out of it!

The sandal was fired from a cannon? I'm surprised it wasn't damaged more...

That is entirely accurate to cannon.
