If there's one thing Susie missed about life in a Corpocity (one of many things, to be frank), it's the quiet you can get sleeping in a highrise. The Big Bug, by comparison, was always alive with noise, heat, and rumbling. And that, itself, was fine. It could even be cozy, as the crew of the great landship often attests. But Susie could notice things, little things that people usually miss. If the Big Bug was unwell, she'd hear it in the sounds during the middle of the night. "Alright, what's got you agitated, big guy?" And Susie would be off to find the problem, tool belt slung over her pajamas.

I'm starting to think of "Gunmetal" as a kind of "Star Trek" story, but it is set on a big landship roaming across a weird wasteland. The crew would be the sort of competent crew that works together to keep everyone alive and help people out when they can. The more I think about it, the more I would love to see a story like that.
