Redefining American Capitalism | Libertarianism

Free-market Capitalism was not always part of the American way of life. How did Libertarianism make its way into the political mainstream?

You are certainly right that regardless of generational leaders, the corporations that are purely profit-motivated are very problematic to whomever is in power. Be it those people are corruptible, or that those in power get drunk off power and wield it for the benefit of self.

1971 representing. Will we be said to have passed the torch when we never really had a meaningful opportunity to carry it? All teasing aside, the seemingly perpetual 'generational conflict' is such a drag, when it's really the interests of immortal corporations that forever seem to crush us hopeless mortals. To your point, I openly support every generation's shine when they step up for us lil' guys.

Wow. Just wow. I think I might just have to upgrade my patreon pledge level after this one. Well done KB, very well done.

Wait, so all of the videos of the past year aren't just individual explanations of institutions and companies? They form a collective series meant to give people the context to understand modern conservatism, and an autopsy of the festering corpse of what was once the greatest nation? Kronk: "Oh yeah, it's all coming together".

Alistair Struck

> Why is Ayn Rand Still a Thing? Yeah, it's crazy. KB gives a good analysis, but I think it really boils down to "people like simple explanations" and boy, did she deliver...!

I can’t access it either

Am I the only one who can’t seem to access it?

Truly an amazing video - thanks KB!

As always a great an engaging video, although it did seem to be a multi part "Ayn Rand" vs. the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s but I think it encapsulated things pretty well. And yes Gen-Xers (I am one, born in 1973) were largely frozen out of higher positions really till recently. Frankly I would like this generation to shine a bit in politics before we pass the torch.

Lou Paris

Some of the things you describe as being part of the new, out of nowhere libertarianism were part of the "Jeffersonian" strict constructionism-based Democrat-Republican party. A great example of this is the Kentucky Resolution of 1798. I'm not touching Ayn Rand, but she didn't create all of these concepts, even if the name is newer. Full disclosure: I do lean libertarian, and most of how you describe them is a fair representation of my own views (more conflicted on the draft). Also, your guest claimed that these views haven't been popular, but I would say that the increase in state nullification of drug laws (not just marijuana) says otherwise. That said, you do continue to provide well-researched, thought-provoking and even empowering videos. I'm still proud to support you, just minorly irritated.

Ah, the KB Episode that continues to ask “Why is Ayn Rand Still a Thing?” I highly recommend the graphical book Age of Selfishness by the way. It’s a great breakdown of Rand’s life and the effects of Late Stage Libertarian Capitalism. Also, Kamala Harris, Beto O Rouke and Andrew Yang are all suspected Gen X politicians I thought of when you asked that question at the end. Yes, they’re Gen X, I verified their ages.
