There wouldn't be a need for mods if the game industry had a standard of releasing the source code of games a few years after release. Many indies do! Terry released the source code of VVVVVV on its 10th anniversary and now it's maintained by fans, translated into heaps of extra languages, and can truly be modified at will. If only we could do this with all games.

From conveniences like skipping the intro movies, over necessities like 60 FPS in Dark Souls, all the way to full blown expansions like FTL Captain's Edition. Not to mention disabling chromatic abberation via ini-file, remapping the controls with Autohotkey, forcing ultra widescreen support with a hex editor, or adjusting the FOV with Unreal Engine Unlocker. I even got my hands dirty myself, adjusting the balance and difficulty curve in Endless Legend and Gladius: Relics of War. It means a lot to hear someone point out the importance of this often overlooked aspect of gaming. Thank you !

While I eschew the more fantastical, cheat and lore breaking mods, I love mods that add immersion, fix bugs, sort out annoying “”features” and, yes, add adult content. *I don’t believe in God, but modders are awesome!
