Walking The Path For The First Time Since 2009

Tale of Tales, a classically controversial indie developer and one of the first to spark what became the "art game" debate. I hated The Path for the longest time, but recently decided to retread it. Let's see how that went, 'cos lord knows walking in real life is very painful right now. Disabilities, yeah!

honestly, this resonates with my brief experience of the path as a pretentious neurospicy youngster, and with my experience of tale of tales’ games in general. always appreciated what they were trying for, but generally found their games kinda miserable to play in a way that i’m pretty sure wasn’t intended. “games don’t have to be fun, but unfun games don’t have to be boring” resonates with me for sure. i’m glad the path exists, and i think it kickstarted a lot of necessary discussions and stuff at the time. the idea that doing what you’re told is the failure state does resonate with me a lot more now, and i’ve always been a pretentious little art cupcake who finds works that break the mold fascinating even if i don’t enjoy them as such. but while games being mechanically hostile to players down to their most basic interactions is interesting and can achieve incredible effects, it is hard for me to engage with games like that due to my neurospiciness and just generally not wanting to have a Bad Time even if it’s in the name of Art. tl;dr, I love that these sorts of games exist, but I personally find it hard to stick with them.
