Here we are! People have been anticipating my review on Bloober Team's reimanining of Silent Hill 2 and the time is upon us! The game is... not bad? It's got some detrimentally bad stuff IN it, but the stuff Bloober got right is damn surprising. CLICK HERE for the full criticism.

They've only gone and bloody done it! Maybe there's hope for Bloober after all

I'm in the first part of the game and I'm enjoying it a lot. Yes, the enemies are a little too numerous, I agree. Also, doors don't seem to have much weight, but that's a nitpick. I enjoy being able to B&E some buildings for items, puzzles, and lore info. I relished finally being able to get inside "Happy Burger," a goofy fast food joint that was just scenery in the OG version. Also, the occasional car having an item you have to smash open to get reminds me of The Evil Within 2. Speaking of which, Tango games might have done an even better job with this game, but they were stuck with Bethesda.

Yes, and I am rather miffed that Laura and Steph were having a mocking laugh some weeks back about Bloober asking to be given a chance at redemption on handling such issues in their games. Unchecked cynicism corrupts.

I'm really glad that Bloober team handled Angela's story with sensitivity. Her story always hits close to home for me as someone with trauma. I would have been livid if they fucked that up. Silent Hill 2 is my favorite horror game to this day so I'm glad Bloober team didn't completely fumble it.

As a grumpy soul I kind of wanted this to be bad but it's good that younger players who likely wouldn't have played the original can experience a decent version of it. It does feel a little odd seeing these classic locations and characters put through the filter of modern unreal gaming. Just the way the James moves and the camera follows him feels very similar to so many modern third person games and the effect is a little strange.

I’ll be damned, always good to know
