As far as why Jan was rightfully fired, If you recall, when Jan burst into the interview between David and Karen, she demanded to know why and David read off a litany of performance issues: She was not showing up to work, when she was at work, she sat in her office all day smoking and online shopping for hours on end, She had been disappearing for days at a time with no explanation, frequent extended absences, they couldn't find her half the time. She had been been irresponsible and erratic for several months. They had every reason to let her go.
