You guys keep mentioning auditioning. They didn't have to audition as they are the creators and main writers (at least early on) of the show. The legend goes that they created the pilot episode for about $200. And Rob's name was attached to his character, Mac was short for McElhenney. Also in the original version they created, Dee was played by Rob's then real-life girlfriend, who got the boot from the show when they broke up. I guess he has a type (people who play Dee).

2025-08-25 18:40:37 +0000 UTCThis episode was originally supposed to be part of season 5. It was on the season 5 DVD but wasn't aired on TV until season 6. Which is why you don't see Mac's mom at Charlie's mom's house this was technically before that happened.
