EPISODE TWO POLL - ALL PATRONS PLEASE VOTE

As of a timeline check today, Episode 2 is going to be about 28 minutes long. Out of the 20+ scenes already animated for it, there are still 3-4 really big scenes left to do from scratch in the second half of the episode, along with a lot of touch-ups and linking on smaller scenes throughout.

Here are two options moving forward:

PLAN A:   I split episode 2's scenes into two different 14-minute episodes, and call them "Episode 2" and "Episode 3." Episode 2 would be released in the next few months, and then Episode 3 would be released probably in a year, and after that I would begin work on the final AFIS episode, going back to present-day Sargasso, which will then be called Episode 4.

PLAN B: Continue what I'm doing, keeping the entire flashback episode as one full, ~28min episode, possibly taking another year and some change, give or take. The following, present-day episode would be called Episode 3, and still begin production as soon as this episode is released in its entirety.

(The poll doesn't guarantee anything, but I'm posting this only on my Patreon because you are the people responsible for keeping this project afloat and I honestly want to know what you think.)

Sir, you take all the time that you need for this to shape into the beauty that you see it as. That’s the fun with waiting things out; the reward is worth it. I can wait. :]

Also I believe the more content that needs to be finalized for 1 long ep may mean more pressure to meet more goals/expectations. I think many great things may happen after the 2nd episode - maybe you will have a larger team by the 2nd episode, etc so I think it's better to release it first and see what goes from there.

Agree, if you split the episode into 2, it will generate hype, and people will know that A Fox in Space project is still happening/in production, since the last one was released in 2015/6 and it may have lost some traction.

If the final episode is also around 15 minutes, splitting this 28 minute one into two would mean more consistency with episode runtimes. I've been holding off watching clips because I'm very excited to eventually watch the episode as a whole. If you think story wise it still works split into two, I reckon go for it. if you choose to hold off till its all done that's fine as well, either way it'll still be just as awesome to watch.

Just my two cents here. But I think releasing part one will generate serious steam for the second half.

I know this post is a month old now, but i hope youll still see this; I honestly think the right move would to be release it in two parts. Its been years since episode one, and if episode two is more or less complete, you should release it. From what i read, it doesnt seem like there’ll be a comprise in the quality by splitting it into two different parts anyways.

I say if you feel like you need the money from ad revenue then split it up. Otherwise one longer episode is good too

I'd rather see it as you originally intended. No need to rush it out as 2 episodes.

I think it would be best to stick to the original running length time.

IMDavidRanged

If it fits well enough for the story, I think a two-parter would be better in the long term.

I think it's best to stick with the original vision. It'll be worth it

Take the time you need to make the best product you want to make. No matter how this falls, I'm going keep giving money every month. But assuming that A&B produce the same product just split and released at different times, A is the better option. Releasing new content can draw in a bigger audience sooner. More eyes, more attraction to this Patreon, more money during the extra year it'll take to get part 2 out. (The flipside is that more eyes means more chance for Nintendo to nuke this project, but that's always an unfortunate possibility.)

Take your time! If you intended for it to be one episode you should keep it that way ☺️

A couple things to consider for me: Would a short episode 2 have a cohesive plot from beginning to end? Would shorter episodes bring more new people to the channel sooner? Would shorter episodes feel more in line with episode 1? Would 2 flashback episodes feel right? How much extra work would be required for splitting the episodes (title sequence, re-editinng, etc.)?

I actually think that a two-parter might work out for the better in the long run because more people will catch onto you guys and your hard work instead of one big episode.

Depends if the 14 min ep 2 would have a significant payoff imo

I voted for a 2-parter. These days it's all about binge-watching something because they intentionally dump entire seasons on us. i miss the days when i can wait for episodes.

knuclear200x

You've said for a while it'll be a three-episode series. If you release episode 2 as episodes 2 and 3 you risk confusing audience members who aren't patrons.

If it serves the story you are trying to tell I'm fine with splitting it up in to two shorter episodes. But I voted for B because I don't mind waiting for it to be done if that is what you need to do. Three episodes is a nice number for a little fan series like this too. If it makes sense to split episode two up do the thing. But may I suggest just calling them Episode 2: part 1 and part 2. Then you don't end up with an awkward episode four title?

work expands so as to fill the time available for its completion

Chance Porter

Releasing a full 28 minutes at once will have a bigger impact. Definitely take your time.

This isn't "television," so why favor arbitrary constraints over taking however long it takes to encapsulate a complete thought? I would hope that the 3rd epsode continues to embody your vision wether it runs 5 minutes or 60.

I'm not opposed to waiting for a super long episode, but I think the series would feel more cohesive if the episodes were all of similar length.

I lean a little towards A simply for digestibility (there's a LOT of material you're packing in here) and the fact that it matches length expectations set by Episode 1. Ultimately, though, it really comes down to your own creative vision. Do you think it would be compromised by having the episode broken into 2 parts? I can't answer that for you. I know I'll enjoy it regardless of what you decide, though!

I don't mind waiting for a complete package. Not to mention as of yet Nintendo hasn't issued any C&D. I don't mean to be too negative but if you garner a large amount of attention from episode 2 and then Nintendo kiboshes any further uploads, that would suck

The Lazy Eyebrow

So tempting for option A, however I realise t dividing might affect the overall pacing already planned. Therefore, B it is.

As much as I like option A, I honestly don’t mind waiting another year (or more) for a longer episode! Regardless of what happens I’m excited and ready!! Take care of yourself, you’re doing amazing!

Half an ep would be absolutely amazing....and what if some of us die before then....at least we get half! ;) But you are the artist, so wherever your vision takes you is best...

Either works for me, man. Hope you’re doing well and taking care of yourself. All the best!

I think it would be a very relieving and positive thing to split the ep into two, especially since you have the first half of it basically complete. It'll help keep the creative process from stressing you out and help build momentum for the project as a whole, plus two large episodes are easier to watch than one gigantic episode.

I don't mind both options and if I had to choose I'm leaning a little more towards option A, but only by a little, it'll be totally worth the wait either way! 😁

I like both options!

Rocknrollame207

i wont be mad either way. keep up the good work Fred!
