Erinye Update Comming on August 2022
Added 2022-07-01 18:06:19 +0000 UTC
Just wanted to announce the state Erinye is in, at least the main story line. You could say it is in the state Resident Evil 1.5 was before being scrapped and started all over (I won't do that on Erinye, since I don't think I can pull a RE2 myself).
I'm working on having a more or less polished build at the end of this month or mids of August. Mostly to avoid the game to softlock on unfinished side quests and dead end events. This update won't have an ending, but I plan to make it "completeable" as in "get all these things and reach this point" compleatable. Mostly to show all the progress I've done so far with levels and enemies.
After this next update (July or August), these will be the things left to complete Erinye:
Main things (To have the game at least "playable" from finish to end)
- - A couple of story events, at least three important ones. These might not be important to "finish the game" but they are for the story to make as much sense as possible.
- -8 Bosses (I decided to leave these for the end to have them as polished as possible, but they may also be cut to a lower number)
- One dungeon that is actually more like a town in troubles, similar to the first part of the game but way more difficult.
- -The Final Dungeon (Originally it was going to be huge, like 10 dungeons together huge, with multiple bosses inside, but I'll stick to something more reasonable instead, normal big dungeon, very difficult)
- -The main "Good" ending event. Iam not sure if I'll manage to do multiple endings as I originally wanted, but I'll see about that when the time comes, since I like endings to be ENDINGS, not glorified Game Over screens)
- Epilogues. Even if the game doesn't have multiple engings, I'll try to add some secret epilogues to finish the story lines of other characters like the ShyGirls, Azuli and Branwen.
Things left to complete the game 100%
- -2 non mandatory dungeons.
- -2 long side quests (These two were important mostly for lore and character developlent between Rina and Erin, but let's see if they end up in the game or not)
- -Some town people who still don't have dialogs due to some cuts I had to make to the lore and sidequests. At the moment many town folks just have place holder dialogs or they straight lie to you about a sidequest that probably won't happen.
- -4 Secret bosses. Not sure if they will scraped to replace main story bosses, since I already did the graphics for some of them, and it'd be a waste not to use them.
- -The Afterlife. A complete different world map that was going to be complementary to the main world, but I'll have to decrease it's role quite a bit in order to finish the game before I'm 40. Here is where the secret bosses were originally to appear. Here is also where some of the unfinished enemies were supposed to be found, but with the cuts, I'll have these enemies on pause until I know which Afterlife scenarios will be scraped and which will remain.
- Non battle random encounters. I have random enemy encounters in the world map, but I want to add some funny encounters with NPCs too, mostly for world building purposes. Similar to Fallout 1 and 2.
- Rina and Erin's conversations before to sleep. These are optional chat and gossip between them every time the player sleeps in an Inn, These definitely won't be scratched out of the game, since these are some of my favorite parts I've wrote.
- Some conversations with Star by the phone. These served character development purposes too, but they might be left out. I wanted to give more importance to Star in the story, even if she's just in phone calls, but we'll see what's of her at the end.
- Multiple weapons, items and power ups. These I design according to the challenges presented in the different stages, that's why I also left them for later. So I can balance them properly according to the dungeons.
- Multiple character graphics that at the time are only place holder sprites or sketches in the case of charcter art.
- Multiple unfinished enemies. I think they aren't that many anymore, but I'll update the list later to be sure, since I haven't done that in a while. These are not mandatory for the game to "end" but they add a lot to the variety of encounters and collectable pictures.
- Some missing sound effects and music (I'm using some other games music and sfx as place holders at the moment, but I plan to have them all replaced)
- A bit of voice acting. Mostly screams, moans and short phrases some enemies yell at you. Right now the game have some place holder voices from other games, but these need to be changed or I'll probably get in troubles.
And I think these will be the most important aspects to have Erinye finished after the next (July/August) update. There are other small things, but those are really last in the list and probably won't be missed if they're left out.
I can't promise the final product will contain everything I listed above. Those are just the things I have in the schedule for when I'm able to work on the game again.
After this next update I'll put the development on pause for at least a couple of months, from six to even a year.
I've been saving all my patreon earings and all I can from my commissions payments since December 2021, that's why I've done very little progress on Erinye this year. I need to save enough money to work on Erinye for at least six months straight to have it "completeable", but saving that kind of money is going to take a lot.
I'm really ashamed for having you wait for so long, I feel I really owe you all this. I wish things would have been smoother in the development of this project that has taken good chunk my life already, but as I've mentioned before. I'm going to finish it or die trying.
