Ad Free / Early - The Mind Over Magnet Post Mortem

Hello! This is it: the final episode of Developing. And it's a big one. I look back at the launch of the game... but also the whole development process. How many copies did the game sell? Did I make loads of dosh? Were there bugs? What did people think? And what did I learn?

A reminder that this is the penultimate draft version of the video, so there will be a few little fixes and tweaks before I release the video to the public tomorrow. But that means you get to see it early and without any adverts!

Cheers

Mark

This became more emotional than I thought 😅 I love it, that you stop seeing the flaws when you look at it. I truly believe you should be proud of yourself! It is a good game and I had fun. For me it has the right amount of challenge. I used once or twice the hint system and I was able to really finish the game which nowadays is not certain for me anymore. Even if I wouldn't have positive feedback it's still a big achievement to get such a thing done and out in the world. What I also found very interesting is, the money perspective over three years. It's good that you were not relaying on it and without gmtk videos it might even be done sooner BUT if you do rough maths and look at the price, hast your sold copies, see what percentage stays there and then look what this means what you get for three years or 36 months it's not that big anymore. I mean it's also not nothing. Definitely not. But it also does not satisfy the secret dream of many of just quitting the day job and create a game - it will generate money on its own, once it's out there and you can relax more from then on

Congrats Mark! The "Developing" series was a joy to watch from start to finish. I really enjoyed the game, and the window into the creative process from start to finish was unlike anything I've ever seen. I especially enjoyed the early days when you were answering questions like "How do I use unity?", and you kept pushing through.
