Development Update - June 2025
Added 2025-06-07 22:07:06 +0000 UTCHey everyone, hope you're all doing well. In the last post I ended by saying how I was going to do some 'smaller generation tweaks', namely better harbours and castles. Well, as usual, this ended up being a whole bunch more work than I was expecting, and I only ended up implementing harbours - but lets get into it!
Coastline improvements
While trying to implement harbours, I realised that the existing coastlines don't look that great. Buildings and farmland always ended up too close to the ocean edge, and the ocean edge was always pretty smooth with no interesting details.
I've now added:
Beaches (sand and pebble)
Cliffs
Rocks
With a whole bunch of extra controls around the ocean shape and details exposed, so you can control what you want your coastline to look like. This decoration also works with manually drawn coastlines.
Here are some examples of coastlines that are now possible:
Long beach:

Rocky coastline:

Cliffs
Harbours
For a while now, this has been the most requested feature, and I'm happy to announce it's now done! These are created as part of waterfront districts, and have a bunch of different options available for the shape, harbour wall shape and material, and pier shape and material.
Here are some example:

Other changes
Rivers also got tweaked with shape options
Improved render performance of larger settlements
Misc bug fixes
Updated the docs with information on how to configure coasts and
Conclusion
That's it for this post! Next up, there are some tweaks I want to make (that I hope will actually be smaller this time), including things like more varied castle districts, as well as better university districts. As always, thank you so much for all of your support, and if you have any feedback, please let me know!
