Y’all this post feels really magical 🪄 ✨. Can y’all feel it? 🫂🥹 These responses have been living in my soul like a spark for days. It made me get curious about my past— to think about all the times I *have* taken my self out! One of my favorite memories that came up is from about 15 years ago when I was in grad school—between my first and second years of chemo. I’d go to the bar at my favorite restaurant in New Haven (Soul de Cuba—a MUST go if it’s still there). Cozy, sacred and food from the ancestors. I’d sit there for a few hours several times a week right after leaving school for the day [middle school English teacher 👩🏾🏫 ]. I’d do my own homework and chat [flirt 🙃]with the bartenders over Cuban food and the BEST sangria. Those were some beautiful dates. Anyway, this post and all the heartfelt responses catalyzed something in me. I’m going to be more intentional about my self dates. I want to do them each week. The goal is consistency and the vibe is letting my spirit lead me, gently, to whatever inspires joy. To make it real (so it exists in physical reality and not just in my head) I told my husband my plan. 😌 He’s so excited for me too. In fact, next week I’m taking myself to a 5 day me-cation outside Carmel! I’ve never been there and I have NO plans. Whatever ✨is happening here in the Clinic helped me do this. For that, I thank you, doc and Patrients. Hugs upon hugs to everyone and endless gratitude for you.

2025-07-26 03:32:38 +0000 UTCSo I played hookie from work today and treated myself to a day out in San Diego’s North Park area, for some reason self-dates were on my mind and today’s treats were: -an excellent swordfish schnitzel sando from Mabel’s Gone Fishing with a Spanish G&T -got my nails done and found out there’s a new cannabis lounge with immersive art displays that opened yesterday, so new activity in my near future -walked around a local indie bookstore and a nifty little witch shop -and found another restaurant with a $1 oyster happy hour on a little rooftop bar (31ThirtyOne) next to an art gallery/bar that focuses on gin and genever (Botánica) (didn’t try either [closed] but they’re on my list for another time -and a tasty strawberry panna cotta and espresso from a dessert bar
