At Toyogasaki Academy, Tomoya Aki had already undergone a preliminary transformation by the second week of the new school term.
Following the math teacher's instructions, he diligently wrote a neat solution on the blackboard, signifying his progress toward becoming a good and studious student.
"I'm done, teacher."
He casually set down the chalk and adjusted the glasses on his nose, descending from the platform under the still-adapting gazes of his classmates.
"That's correct, Aki-kun. You've been quite motivated lately. Everyone should learn from Aki-kun. You're all in your second year now, and next year you'll be exam candidates."
The math teacher looked at Tomoya with satisfaction. To be honest, having witnessed Tomoya's exploits in his first year, the teacher was surprised by his transformation, though it was certainly a positive change.
As one of the school's three most notorious personalities, Tomoya's feats from last year were still fresh in people's minds. This student, previously known for his unremarkable grades, was gradually changing everyone's perception of him since the start of the new term.
Tomoya's efforts were being noticed by many, including the teachers. The boy, who was once thought of primarily as an extreme otaku, was indeed trying hard.
If every student were like him, teachers could live a few more years of stress-free life.
Among his classmates, especially Yoshihiko Kamigo, who was also an otaku, gazed at him as if he'd seen a ghost.
"Yeah, next year we'll be exam candidates. I need to raise my deviation score to over 60 in the first semester."
Tomoya casually stated. His previous deviation score was only 45, a score terribly far from his current goal of getting into the University of Tokyo.
On the platform, the teacher's heart trembled, a lump forming in his throat. Such moving words! If only all students had such awareness.
While not moved to tears by Tomoya's attitude, the teacher nonetheless began to see him in a new light because of these words.
Others, however, were bewildered. In their minds, Tomoya, the otaku, was not someone who would say such things!
What happened during the spring break to bring about such a change in him?!
"How can this be happening…"
Yoshihiko Kamigo watched with a pale face, his body trembling at Tomoya's unfamiliar demeanor.
Now he was the one on the verge of tears, as there are not many like Tomoya who openly showed their otaku nature in public, so why betray him now?
So, what could cause such a drastic change in a person?
Tomoya, or rather the current Tomoya, is no longer the same as before. The current Tomoya has been replaced by another person.
At the beginning of the spring break, he experienced a 'transmigration,' and it took him half of the break to come to terms with this reality.
In Japan, a country he only knew from mixed reviews and vague impressions, he found himself having transmigrated, becoming a student about to enter his second year of high school.
Should he lament the unpredictability of life, or be grateful for this chance from the heavens to start anew and build the perfect life he had dreamed of?
Once he calmed down, he realized that starting from high school was more than adequate.
His Japanese skills were at max level; what should have felt awkward in text and speech now came as naturally as his native tongue.
He retained all his memories, both from his past life and as Tomoya Aki.
Firstly, he set a small goal: to no longer be an otaku in high school. There was no future in that, so he decided he should aim to get into the University of Tokyo.
Anime, manga, games, they could all "scram!"
If he didn't focus on studying now, was he really going to end up making gal games?
No way!
Not to mention the risks of that career path, being a student should mean focusing on studies above all else!
This hard work is for a bright future—marrying a rich and beautiful woman requires credentials!
He planned to first become a top student, build a network at the University of Tokyo, perhaps even get close to a rich, only-child heiress—taking her on dates, making her fall for him, and eventually marrying her to merge with her family's wealth was the perfect plan!
Therefore, for Tomoya, increasing his academic deviation score was now the top priority. With a score of 45, getting into the University of Tokyo was out of the question, and even a second-tier university seemed doubtful.
Deviation score dictates destiny; it is justice!
..........
During lunch break, with only a few people left in the classroom, Tomoya was packing up his desk, planning to head to the cafeteria alone, when Yoshihiko Kamigo, who had stayed behind, approached him.
"Yoshihiko, is there something you need?"
Tomoya looked over with an indifferent gaze, making Yoshihiko freeze.
Before spring break, Yoshihiko had never seen such a decisive look from Tomoya, as if he was no longer dealing with a fellow otaku friend but rather the kind of socially successful person he used to despise.
"Tomoya, did you watch the latest episode of…"
"Sorry, I'm not interested in anime, manga, games, or light novels anymore."
Just as Yoshihiko was trying to talk about a TV anime episode from last night, Tomoya unhesitatingly interrupted him.
The current Tomoya wouldn't waste his time on those things anymore.
Deviation score was everything, and studying was his primary goal.
Achieving his ambition of getting into the University of Tokyo wasn't something that could be done with just words.
That’s the top university in Japan, and every year countless people fight to get in. Tomoya didn't see any reason to slack off, especially with a previous deviation score of only 45!
"Uh..."
Yoshihiko looked at Tomoya in disbelief, unable to believe the words coming out of his mouth.
This was not the Tomoya Aki he knew!
"I'm heading to the cafeteria."
With nothing left to say, Tomoya lost interest in continuing the conversation.
As Tomoya passed by Yoshihiko, the latter looked at him, trembling.
His transformation was too drastic for Yoshihiko to accept, leaving him wondering if it was all just a dream.
Seeing Yoshihiko's reaction, Tomoya shook his head and thought to himself, "Another one gone crazy…"
After having lunch in the cafeteria, it seemed his "unusual" behavior since the start of the term had made him famous again.
Many second-year and higher students were curiously watching him as he sat alone.
“Sawamura-kun, that Tomoya Aki really has changed completely, just like the rumors say!”
At a nearby table, a friend of a blonde, twin-tailed girl exclaimed, completely oblivious to Eriri's complicated expression.
"What on earth..."
Eriri stared incredulously at Tomoya sitting by himself. She still couldn't believe it; her childhood friend, a hardcore otaku, had turned into this.
Although she was absentmindedly chatting with the girls next to her, her gaze was firmly fixed on her childhood friend, Tomoya.
When she saw Tomoya get up, she suddenly stood, surprising the girls at the neighboring table.
"Sawamura-kun, what's wrong with you all of a sudden?"
"Sorry, I just remembered something important. I've got to go!"
Seeing Tomoya about to leave the cafeteria, Eriri quickly explained and hurriedly mumbled something about urgent matters as she chased after him.
Meanwhile, Tomoya, after departing the cafeteria, didn’t return to the classroom but instead headed toward the school library.
There was still plenty of time left in the lunch break.
"Wait, you bastard! Stop right there!!!"
A familiar voice suddenly called out from behind, making Tomoya stop instinctively.
He turned around and looked back, a flash of surprise in his eyes at the sight of the blonde figure.
"Impressive twin-tails!"
