Last Day Bunker Chapter 5

I considered telling them about magic and such... But I realized that waiting until we reached the bunker and I actually had some amount of magical power beyond the magical shit inside the bunker would be for the best.

As I could just as easily make them think I was an even weirder weirdo in speaking about it.

Either way I just enjoyed the spaghetti even getting seconds along with the other girls before Amelia the older daughter spoke. "So are we going to try to make it to your bunker tonight before the sun comes up tomorrow?"

I brushed a hand across my face before I spoke honestly. "I have a hybrid jeep so it's rather quiet. But how old are the triplets anyway?"

Sarah their mother answered me easily. "They are all just over three years old. So they can be a bit heavy after carrying them for a while."

'Yeah, we will need to carry them a few miles to my jeep that's outside the city limits.' I thought as I brushed a hand across my chin before I spoke.

"Do you guys have like chest or back holsters for them to be carried in?" I asked as I sure as hell wasn't going to use a loud baby carriage or whatever to cart them around the streets of Las Vegas.

The two shared a look before Sarah said unsurely. "I... I think so? I don't know if they will fit though."

I shrugged and standing up I said plainly. "Whelp, time to find out. We are well-fed, they are still asleep after their breathing treatments, right? If so then now is the best time to go with the desert still having some heat before night robs all of the warmth."

Amelia looked at Sarah and said softly. "He is probably right, we should move while some noise is still being made in the city to keep those aliens busy. Who knows if the demons are going to just take a nap or something."

Sarah knowing the truth in her daughter's words nodded and took a deep breath before she said. "Alright, just give me a couple of minutes to dig out their harnesses from the closet. Jake, can you collect any supplies you think we will need at your bunker?"

Amelia got up and followed me as I hefted my large camping bag as I opened up their pantry and began putting as much of the food as I could inside.

"So... Mighty nice of you to offer up space in your bunker to us." Amelia said quietly making me look at her with a raised eyebrow before I shrugged.

"Got a good system there... A half dozen more mouths to feed won't affect me." I said a bit gruffly as I wrapped the glass jars of sauces with paper towels to protect them with the padding along with silencing any clinking noises they would make.

Amelia made a noise of disagreement with her saying flatly. "My mom offered you something didn't she?"

I paused for a moment hearing her ask that question so bluntly and after that moment I decided to be honest and said plainly. "She did offer somethings yes... But I made it clear that offering her body for my satisfaction wasn't needed for my protection."

There was a long pause before Amelia said softly. "I don't believe you honestly... With such an easy opportunity sure you said its not needed but when we get to the bunker and want more rations? What then?"

My lips twitched and I stood up fully with my full height towering over Amelia by more than half a foot as I said in amusement. "Then as a man it's my job to go get her some more food... Though I do have a full hydroponics farm in one of the sublevels, if she wants more food she can literally just pick some fresh fruits and vegetables from the farm should she want it."

I shrugged and said plainly. "Amelia I am not your enemy honestly. We are both humans in a tight situation of survival... I am offering to help you ladies as it's the right thing to do and frankly, you ladies are literally the only other survivors I have seen."

I gave her a long look as I said darkly. "Amelia... I mean that literally, every single other person I have come across while walking through New Vegas was just a corpse or worse."

Who knows how many people were hiding in their homes, their apartments? Holding their mouths to silence any noises they could make as aliens, monsters, and worse prowled the land.

All I knew was that no one was roaming the streets and the city was in a hush of death currently.

And Amelia could hear the truth in my words with her probably having heard something similar... Or having seen worse when the monsters first landed on the world and seeing it first hand.

I took a breath and finished off. "So yeah... Now go get your toothbrush, clothes or something young lady." I said imperiously making me a shooing motion with my hands that made her face curl up in amusement.

"Fine fine, I will get ready for the trip." She said rolling her eyes and then I paused and added on firmly.

"Oh yeah, make sure Sarah has all the lady products packed up still. I do not have a large store of such things." I admitted frankly.

Would be really awkward if something like them starting their periods happened in my bunker... And they didn't have any pads or whatever.

Amelia seeing my awkward expression just giggled evilly and bounced away leaving me to finish packing things up.

After a couple of minutes Sarah came back into the living room after I had finished packing everything up and seeing me she smiled wryly and said. "I got the triplets all bound up in their harnesses. Do you think you could carry one of them?"

I nodded and said easily. "Yeah, I can carry my hiking back on my back and a kid on my front. My jeep is a good like five or six miles out of the city limits so make sure you are wearing good shoes."

My eyes lasered in on her wearing fucking crocs of all things with Sarah coughing and saying awkwardly. "It's just for inside the house!"

And my deadpan gaze made her slump before she turned on her heel and went back to her room with me following as I saw Amelia come out of her own room with a large school sports bag hanging on her back.

"Alright let's get going, times a wasting." I said as I tilted my head towards the triplets room.

Amelia then spoke more to her mom's benefit as she was busy changing into some jogging shoes. "Mom, me and Jake will be putting the girls on. Hurry up or I will leave Candace to you."

Sarah gave a low whine making me raise an eyebrow Amelia gave me a mischievous smile as she gave me a little nudge into the other room and I finally laid my eyes on the triplets.

While Sarah and Amelia both had brown hair and brown eyes, these girls and dear god I felt bad for the previous father having to face having four daughters in a row. The three of them had more sandy blond colored hair.

"They are all asleep as the breathing treatments lull them to sleep." Amelia said softly and I noticed how Sarah had already packed up the girl's clothing and had the three girls already bundled up in the harnesses I just needed to put on.

I pointed to one of the girls and said quietly. "Help me put her onto me. I never did this before and I don't want her freaking out you know."

And so I sat down on the child bed with Amelia gently lifting up her much younger sister who seemed to be around like three or four years old. And strapped on the harness around my shoulder so the toddler/pre-schooler could be mounted onto me.

With the girl snoozing away against my chest I saw Amelia doing the same with the other while Sarah came in a couple of minutes later with her own bag across her back as she slipped the last kid onto her chest.

We then turned out the lights of the apartment and then with us taking one final hearty drink of the tap water, we moved on out into the cooler night air outside.

Giving the girls looks, I came up and whispered. "The main monsters only respond to sound and can't see at all. So flashlights are fine, just let me go in front and just follow behind me."

And so we kept moving through the relative darkness of Las Vegas as the automatic city lights filled the main roads and alleys with harsh fluorescent light. There however was no hiding the stark... Strangeness at the haunting lack of the sounds ever-present in a major city.

We kept moving, and as we passed by one of the larger hospital buildings this one being an emergency care facility we all three paused seeing humanoid figures stumbling around the hospital's front entrance if they weren't busy hunched over another form.

I turned to Sarah and I firmly shook my head as I knew all to well those were fucking zombies and after a moment she visibly shivered and she silently followed me though I heard Amelia speed up her own walking.

And she pinched my jacket to get my attention before she stabbed her hand at the figures.

I took her hand and I got real close to her face so she could see how serious I was as I shook my head firmly. No words were shared but I could see how conflicted she look but I didn't waste time.

The hospital was clearly fucking overrun by zombies so I just kept moving with Sarah following behind me and after a moment Amelia followed us as well.

But as we came around a crashed ambulance that had clearly been turbo fucked by the sound-sensitive aliens and tore into scrap metal. A soft moan rang out as from behind the wreckage of the ambulance came two zombies that had seemingly heard our footsteps.

As our footsteps weren't at all silent with how we were all carrying a rather heavy load after all.

I gave Sarah a look and pointed at her to and mimed putting a hand over her mouth and then pointed at Amelia.

Sarah grimaced but nodded as I took out a metal baseball bat I got from Sarah's own home as apparently Amelia was super into baseball and softball.

And loud pings rang out as I plonked both zombies across the knees to bring them to the ground so they couldn't get us even as they stumbled behind us.

I motioned us forward and we walked around the kneecapped zombies that couldn't walk anymore. And I could all but feel Amelia's glaring stare into my back as we kept moving for the next hour without incident until we reached my jeep.

"Were those literally zombies," Amelia asked bluntly as the triplets who were only now kinda waking up slightly after all our movements were being strapped into the back seat of the jeep.

I brushed my hand across my face as I responded bluntly. "Yuuup! The Umbrella Corporation decided to work with making bioweapons which include at the very least zombies... They have worse monsters though."

Before she could say anything however I said firmly. "Shush, we can speak freely at the bunker. Now get in beside your sisters unless you wanna ride in the trunk without a seat belt."

I left Amelia to climb into the back of the jeep without a seat belt as she seemingly refused to ride with her smelly younger sisters or something as Sarah climbed into the front passenger seat while I got into the driver's seat and with a slight hum that made my body shiver with the noise it made. The jeep started without issue and we were off.

Comments

Hope that once he's back at the bunker and just entering it, some of the aliens show up to see what happens to what enters the moat.
