Was fun watching you go from “meh this show seems like one I won’t like” to being head over heels for MaoMao and Jinshi. Plus, the Lakan plot twist is legit one of the most tragic stories written.

Jinshi with the book 🤣 They name her maomao 🤣(the cat) Ok good first episode. It’s a nice cute episode to ease us back in but looks like the next episode is where the intrigue will restart. The cat was cute. Love the book plot. After the episode. The book plot is good because it reminds us that this rear palace is not the end all. They will have live after this. I’m very curious about all the new characters. I was rewatching the first season. In Somnambulist “Ghost” lady that was offered as a reward to a military officer. It was implied that all this was a ploy so both of them could be together. Gyokuyou mentions at the end that it is wrong to be jealous. So she is someone jealous of someone finding true love in someone who’s not the emperor. Also after Lihua heal from the powder and the emperor visite Gyokuyou less often. Gyokuyou seem to be glad of having more sleep at night. The lady that the emperor was close to is Ah-Duo, The presumptive Jinshi secret mom. The next is my opinion but I think Jinshi deep down knows about the baby swap but he never had actual confirmation. I think in one of the episodes we see Jinshi reflecting on it and just said to himself, is not his reality right now so he should stop thinking about what could have been or something. I’m just at the beginning of rewatching S1 so I'm not at that episode yet. Great to be back with Apothecary Diary Take Care 😋

At the end we can't use modern customs to understand how love and politics works. Even in modern times, china's culture is very different from our's. My understanding is that the number of concubines is set according to religious beliefs, each one means something. For the emperor to get a lot of children to ensure the continuity of the lineage is a duty rather than a desire. And his daughters are chips to be exchanged for political reasons.
