After the convention at Pheonix.. boy was it an experience that somehow lingers in my head beyond the average post-con "depression". I like to think of it as coming down from the mountain back to normalcy but what does that mean to me? In this case, it felt like climbing out of the depths of hell and junk. We keep on going tho!

Mara's Sword

Last one before con season for me! I think I get to dive into more compositionally compelling works that I hope makes the work stand out. Though let it be said that the point isn't to stand out but to make something I'm proud of and enjoy.

This one was a fun one-and-done type deal but I think I've been spending a lot of time over rendering again which is something I want to remind myself not to do...

I got so many people asking if they can commission Mara in an NSFW work or something. I told myself that they are definitely allowed but I COULD DO IT MYSELF!

So I did.

This is weird how I managed to draw a lot of the lineart in quickly. We need to explore how efficient one can get with drawing a more proper lineart... but who knows.

On a whim, I made a secondary character for Alice and Mara. Sam is supposed to be short for Samantha but its funny thinking her name is actually just "sample text".. Also I think I'm really hamming down on my art style this time around.

I think maybe perhaps that backgrounds aren't so much a weakness so much as the need to have them be integrated is more of the issue. I definitely can draw backgrounds; I definitely can draw characters.. but to have them be cohesive is a matter I'm still struggling with but I feel like we are cluing in on some very juicy lessons.

First time in a while that I've actually gotten the time to draw her. Almost like coming home type of a deal. Now with more knife!

Currently unnamed original character of various references.. to be named at a later date if she ever appears again. Honestly, just a character on a whim since I have a mental fixation to character designing right now.

Yoru - Wind

I still struggle with a sense of background integration so sometimes it just happens that I just default to a basic white background.. I should learn to take some clues about what direction I want the work to go in the end, but it'll get there!

Izutsumi

I cannot explain why I really enjoy this little creature but they have such charm! Also the saga of convincing people into thinking I'm really into feet continues; I should try to not actually develop a thing for them... probably

I'm honestly so surprised about how many people like Mara despite my misgivings about her simple design. BUT I REALLY LIKE HOW SIMPLE SHE IS. Let me live.

Everyone's favorite wine (sake) aunt. Really pushing the idea of visible brush strokes with this one, I really think that the marker like look is very awesome but feels a little rudimentary(?)

I'd like to capture that raw drawing emotion without it feeling like a marker sketch drawing.

This one was actually really interesting because I'm legitimately finding a lot more "true to raneblu" artistic choices with illustrations specifically. FUN!

..and they were roommates. I feel a slight misgiving when it comes to ultimately forgoing slower techniques not for the sake of efficiency but the simplicity of it all. Simple yet confident is the goal but lord sometimes it feels like cheating or something

Makima Seggs Gaming

Whenever I use soft brushes on skin tone it feels so cheap to me because it works so well but ultimately its probably not the type of rendering I want to engage with again. Maybe its too in line with those really rendered images of buxom ladies from anime that I just don't vibe with..

Rabbit Hole

Really jamming on some of these texture brushes for some of these tones but I'm still a sucker for the classic circle brush.

I think the thing that takes the most time in the art process is just figuring out what you want each element to do and even then sometimes it doesn't always work out the way you want it to. I spent a ton of time trying to figure out that upper sleeve but onwards to the next one!

Emo Moom

There's just something so charming (and nostalgic) about Mumei's new outfit. I don't know if I want to call that a good thing or a bad thing but for now I'll say that I enjoy it a lot!

I had a ton of fun going around this game and the lore is so touching and open ended!

I'm glad i finally got through it, I swear I was missing out on all the cool robot on robot action *wink

Aki/Hime

Probably one of my favorite doomed ships in this particular universe... probably. This one has got a ton more "painting" happening which I absolutely love but I think is starting to become a little unnecessary

The name Nyako is so much better than Meowy but I guess the joke makes sense either way..
