I like the dynamic of this exchange. Jivi leaps to Siya's defence EVEN THOUGH HE WAS JUST MAKING FUN OF HER FOR THE SAME THING. That classic teenage utter unawareness of self. It's only okay when he does it, while the absolute worst has to be assumed about someone like Sette.
But more importantly he's trying to mack on these chicks and Set...

Secret behind-the-scenes info: I gave Matty sunburn and dealt with remembering to keep him red-skinned for two chapters solely for this single gag.

What's the point of being a god if you're not going to demand -some- standards from your followers?
Our friends on this page are referencing all kinds of events we've seen in past chapters. Masek's "bad thing" is the assassination of Queen Sonorie's sister by a gang of two-toes. Of course we know that was arranged by Nary Frummagem and Jab...

Getting the anatomy right on Minnow in the second panel was a challenge, but I really liked the ick factor of someone being able to reach inside your torso and stroke the very essence of your entire being. Stop doing that, River, bad touch.
One more page with these two, then we'll head inside to the kids.

So Mistress Lori betrayed the waterwomen? Doesn't look like she was too happy to do it, but Duane did find the Queen's letterhead in her office. If the Queen asks your help, maybe you do what you have to do... especially if you're on thin ice anyway because your little sister abandoned her responsibilities to go make babies with some muttonchopp...

Meet River, who creeps me right out.
The "leader" of any particular group of waterwomen is this oracle-type figure who's had her head mostly hollowed out. The river supposedly speaks through her, passing judgement and directing the rest to make storms or make peace. "River" is blind, helpless, and utterly dependent on her two little friend...

It was difficult to decide which biscuit flavour would rule supreme in Minnow's canon, but I think she puts a lot of stock in the spicy transfiguration of one's breath. She can share ginger cookies with the two-toes and fix their otherwise gamey kisses without hurting their feelings.
But that's for later. Right now she prolly gonna get rek...

Captain Hetr, it's been a while. And the world is still disrespecting you, poor bastard.
I announced the fanworks contest winners over on the main site. At this point in these things I just feel like a clod and want to say everyone is a winner. This is why I can't...

Any clever blighters want to tell me who the new two-toe is? This is our first time seeing him, but his existence was mentioned at the end of chapter 13~
I started this chapter out inking with Photoshop's pencil tool, which is good when you're trying to ink with a lot of spot blacks and heavier line weights. I stuck with it through this sc...

Waterwomen can interpret vibrations and communicate with each other underwater via a sense organ smack between their eyes. This works fine for simple summons and threats, but if they need to have a more detailed discussion they'll have to seek the surface~
I don't think Minnow wants to talk to whomever's calling her though. In fact she ki...

And we're back!
2020 is still fresh and crisp, and here's the start of a new Unsounded chapter to celebrate.
Though 15 is a return to form after the interlude of 14. While Duane's behaviour takes an ugly dive thanks to a bunch of new ideas put into his head by the clarity with which his stoopid zombie brain served up those days with ...

Farold's Cafe & Patisserie is always full to bursting early in the morning of Spellwrights' Day, a winter tradition where Gefendur give thanks to Baelar for teaching Pymary to humans, and where Ssaelit show appreciation to all the spellwrights in their life with gifts of sweets and prayers for their well-being throughout the next year. It's ...

Chapter 14 went through a lot of changes over the years. I had first envisioned it far, far earlier in the comic, right after Chapter 3, as a story that Duane would relate to Sette while they travelled. There remains of it a faint echo in the...

Four pages today! I decided I didn't want a pause between 130 and 131; I wanted that sharp cut to Siya's drawing of him saying the words that seem to be causing him such distress.
But that's a wrap for chapter 14! What did you guys think? Was it too painful leaving the rest of the cast for so long? Was the story of the Foi-Hellick Affair a...

Nice to see that the Adeliers aren't completely deluded in regards to what the government might be capable of. Neither have ever believed that Alderode is a perfect state, they just believe it's the best they got.

Lemuel talks a big game but he wasn't down there egging Duane on for a coup de grace on old Salty. I think it's all bluster; he wouldn't have done anything to stop her leaving if he'd had the power.
I had to cut a bit out of this scene that killed me. While they were walking and chatting, Lem's friend Morty wordlessly stopped Lemuel, grabb...

Of course we know Claggart must have written one hell of a letter; less than six months later, Duane was indeed hired to instruct battlewrights in the Lions of Mercy and installed as a priest in the famous Temple of Song. His life was pretty amazing for around ten years after that, give or take some prickly in-laws and the death of his father.

The Etalarche Curse has certainly dimmed... but to this day you can say "Roger Foi-Hellick" to an Aldishman and he'll still probably find a reason to curse him out, spit on the ground, or go off on a tirade like an eccentric uncle at Thanksgiving. Three new pages today! I wanted these all to be read together so you could properly appreciate Duane's rush to get Will to safety. I had to really pare down the reunion which was three pages in the script, but it felt ridiculous when poor Will is slowly dying in Duane's arms :U
But that leaves a fair amount to inference. We can only imagin...

All Lemuel really needed was for his pain to be acknowledged. Duane's seen it for himself all this chapter: losing comrades, taking shit from his superiors, excelling in spite of it, getting no credit anyway, feeling utterly abandoned, alone, and forgotten.
Duane can say the right thing, sometimes.
Now, onward!

With the salt off you can see she has nostrils where one would expect eyes to be. So she may be blind for a while but as an underground critter she relies much more on her sense of smell anyway.

Looking pretty lizardy underneath all that salt, Shaensigin.
On her introductory page I had a bunch of comments asking why she didn't look like a lizard. Vindication! I mean, she still is much more in Dinosaur Camp than Backyard Anole Camp, but I think when the salt comes off the origin of her name is a little more understandable.

Two new pages today!
I had two versions of the second page - one with dialogue and one without. In the end I went with the one without, but there is a version where I had Duane explain that the newly blinded Shaensigin is afraid that the drum is the heart beating again, and she's backing away from it. I hated it though, I'm hoping it's cle...

There are a lot of tricky things to show in a comic and a stiff stone heart beating is one of them. It looks like Shaensigin is a lot smaller under all that salt though than one might have imagined. Look at that pointed lizardy tail that was hiding under there.

Two pages today! The shots inside Shaensigin's mouth really gave me the creeps when I was doing them. I think it's the little bit of light filtering down through her waffle holes.
