Shaensigin pragmatically gobbling down Vampire on her way outta Dodge is emblematic of senet beasts v humans, to me. Maybe to humans he was a powerful rebel and leader of men, impossibly old, cut down in a humiliating manner tragically unbefitting his long and dramatic life. To Shaensigin he's a snack.

Vampire's dialogue is enjoyable to write but at the same time, deeply embarrassing. I worry about people seeing these pages on their own, out of context, and concluding I am a hack. Which is true, but I am a hack in entirely different ways.

Roger is almost skirting the "villain" line - and maybe he completely crosses it for you since we don't have a lot to go on to justify any of this but him and Vampire babbling about Alderode denying them freedom. Pretty meaty page, though a lot of it is between the lines. Roger didn't want to marry a woman and his family made sure he suffered for it. I think we can presume his parents had a lot invested in him. I think we can also gather that even the rich and privileged in Alderode are expected to conform to society.
