July's livestream was pretty rad, lad!

2020-07-05 20:37:21 +0000 UTC View PostAs most of you probably already know - Discord's Terms of Service are not great. There's been a push in the Free Software community towards dumping it or at least providing an alternative that respects it's user's rights. Following the example of KXStudio, I've decided to host my own Rocket Chat.
So - there's now an official unfa...
Join me for a YouTube premiere!
Scheduled to 20:00 CET.
I'll be in the live chat answering all your questions!
See ya!
Thank you all so much fro your continued support!
The community was always one of the most appealing things to me regarding libre software and Linux.
And I feel like the community that has formed around my way of giving back is the best I could ever hope for.
You are awesome! :D
After a long wait Ardour 6 is here!
What better time to learn it than now?
In this video I'm going to guide you through a process of creating a simple project from scratch.
You'll learn how to:

Also - please keep it a secret :)
This community is growing quickly, and I'm seeking ways to automate some tasks, so I can focus on the im...
This time I've decided to leave the comfy space of Ardour and give Zrythm a good, loong look. I had 90 minutes to make a track with it. I can't say I succeeded, as all I have to show for it is a very short snippet.
I wasn't actually able to export the finished project due to Zrythm crashing, but you can download the project and try it you...
I've done a spontaneous improvised live beatbox performace today.
Maybe you'll find it inspiring.
If you'd like to sample some of the beats or maybe analyze them and use them in your music, I've published the raw, unprocessed microphone input on Freesound:

Here's my thoughts about the new, long awaited release of Ardour - one of the most capable and popular libre DAWs around.
Enjoy!

Thank you so much for your appreciation and support! You are a great community, that I am really proud of!
If you missed it, here's a little livestream I made documenting the big moment:

Many of you have wondered how I made this psychedelic vocal synth sound heard in my track Numinous:

In this video I'm going to show you exactly how it's made, and how you can use free and open-source software to make psytrance.

A quick and fun video showing off Carla a bit.
The thumbnail is actually the first thing YouTube has proposed to me.
2020-05-13 18:38:51 +0000 UTC View PostWe've made some chilly dubstep with awesome chords and a lyricless vocal line.
We've also hit 76 concurrent viewers, so that's a record!
Many thanks to all who submitted their music, who attended the stream and who continues to support my work!
Grab the Ardour 5 session and have some fun with it!
Here's a short video showing an interesting way to mangle your recordings with samplv1 libre sampler plug-in. You could do this with any DAW supporting LV2 plug-ins, automation and MIDI sequencing, I'm sure you could even do this live, by playing a looped MIDI sequence into the sampler and turning a knob to advance the virtual "playhead".
Here's a little relaxed video about a piece of on-head monitoring gear I've just acquired - namely ATH-M50xBT studio monitor headphones. In this video I cover my impressions and thoughts of the first week of usage.
There's some good news on this video too - enjoy!
In this video I take a good look at a slightly forgotten, but unique and amazingly sounding free synthesizer plug-in: NoiseMaker by Togu Audio Line.
It wasn't always free software, but thanks to the generosity of TAL, and the amazing work of falkTX, we can enjoy this instrument in LV2 format.
And even on MOD Duo... But that's a sto...
We've made a track from scratch using TAL Noize Mak3r as the sole synthesizer, and Ardour 6.0-pre1 as the DAW (you can download the final track's Ardour session and exported Ogg Vorbis file below).
I was really amazed with the amount, variety and quality of the music submissions this month - keep it up, guys!

Here's how I do it!
2020-03-30 06:39:40 +0000 UTC View PostHere's a piece of music I made for this difficult time of pandemic.
Stay safe!
Get ready for another monthly livestream!
I'll show you some new music, talk about Surge synthesizer, make music and play your submissions.
But all of that after I make the coffee!
This was a spontaneous answer to a question I've received.
I thought it's good time to talk about licensing of software and creative works.
I talk about free and open source software, and free culture and what do you need to know about licenses if you want to sell your music.
I forgot to mention the BSD license as one of the mor...
Here's a final (for a while at least) tutorial about Geonkick.
I show you how you can synthesize hihats in a couple of ways, and finally - we make a crash cymbal.

Today I've livestreamed another tutorial - this time about synthesizing snares with the free and open-source percussion synthesizer called Geonkick.
I've also used Dragonfly Hall Reverb and Luftikus EQ plug-ins to tweak the synthesized sounds.
You can also download the Geonkick presets and the Zrythm project below (you'll also find...
I've spontaneously decided to livestream my next tutorial about Geonkick.
In this video I show you how to synthesize 5 different kicks drums using libre drum synthesizer Geonkick.
Enjoy!

As you've shown great interest in learning how to use Geonkick - I've made my first tutorial.
in this video I take a look at the user interface, talk about the structure of the synthesizer, and show off it's capabilities with some accidental sound design.
Enjoy!
Here's a short interview I've recorded during Sonoj Convention 2019.
Meet Nils!
Thus time we've been making a short orchestral piece of music using the Fluid_R3 GM soundfont and Ardour.
