Thoughts on Moneyball? The concept, not the movie.

What's your opinion on the Manhunt games? Do you think a game with that kind of subject matter and portrayal of violence can be successful in the modern day if done well?
I think anything can, even the ultra-violent, ultra edgy stuff, though I can't speak much to Manhunt, as I've never played it. Gorefests are generally not my thing though. There's somehow a silliness to things like Gears of War or DOOM that makes it a lot easier to swallow for me than say, Saw.
Likely, it's that the enemies are almost cartoons... as is your protagonist.
I heard there was a story reason why the main character of Manhunt 2 is even more violent than the first, so one day I'll play it to see why, but while I believe almost any video-game can be successful, I think a Manhunt style game would be better off going for atmosphere than violence.
Manhunt 1's mood and ambience hasn't really been captured since, meanwhile, we've had several edgy games like Hatred attempt to further Manhunt 2's violence.
Ironically, the former would stand out more than the latter these days.
