Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex's return with 2045 was in its first season... rough, to say the least. It got to a point when a friend proposed watching Season 2 which had just come out after we binged the entire GITS franchise, I wasn't very enthusiastic.
However, Season 2 of SAC_2045 is great, with the first four episodes being the strongest this franchise has been in over a decade. While I'm still not a fan of the 3D style, the improvements from Season 1 mean that it's no longer harming the storytelling, and the cinematography, editing, animation, is for the most part, excellent.
Definitely the biggest surprise of the year for me so far, and one as an admitted fanboy of GITS, I'm very pleased to see.
Is it worth dealing with Season 1 to get to?
If you're a Ghost in the Shell fan, definitely.
