Someone online summarized this show as Black Lagoon meets Cyberpunk... not really. Akudama Drive is it's own beast, and one that especially for the first half, had me rolling on the floor laughing. It's been a long time since I've seen a show that's so over the top without ever becoming grating.
The production is outstanding, visuals are gorgeous, the soundtrack slaps, voice-acting is great, the story's superbly paced, and it even changes tone to become something more profound with its unnamed lead character going through one hell of an arch, and it's just 12 episodes with a beginning, middle, and end.
Judging from the lack of attention online, it seems many missed out on this show, which is a real shame, because it's one of the most entertaining I've seen in a while.
