Electronic Music generally seems to lean towards this pho-inspirational life improvement positivity angle. Like folk music for a new-age and I don't care for most of it. Not because I've got a cold lump of coal where my heart's supposed to be... promise, I wouldn't have recommend an M83 album in the past were that the case. It can be done well, most of it just comes across as insincere.
Innerpartysystem were a group that on this EP, managed to outdo most electronic groups with phenomenal production and song variety, with a quite cynical angle, which considering the world we're in... I'm in the mood for.
Songs like American Trash and Money Makes The World Go Around are most obvious cases of this cynicism, but Out of Touch is actually my favorite. Mainly for it's dichotomy of an uplifting melody combined with melancholic lyrics, and that ability's what makes this record rise above just being Teen Angst.
