Recommendations: Memento (2000)

Memento's a film I've been meaning to scratch off the list for years, especially for being a total sucker for films that delibertly mess with the audiences head.

The unreliable narrator is reliably entertaining.

What I wasn't expecting from Memento was to feel inspired by the end, as inspired as I did watching El Mariachi, because though this is may be Christopher Nolan with his writing on point, Guy Pearce leading on fire, and not a moment being wasted... it's a film anybody could've made.

Its locations are limited to a couple blocks, often a couple rooms, its camera-work is totally within the confines of one's immediate space, there's no special effects, and I've had 3am Discord Calls with a larger cast of characters.

And it's beautiful.

I'd recommend the film to anybody who just likes an interesting story, but if you're an aspiring artist, then I won't be surprised if you wanna type up a script and shop it around the moment you reach the credits.

Memento is firmly in my top 3 Nolan movies, maybe my favorite depending on the day. Super underrated…or at least as underrated as a Nolan film can be.
