I admittedly was a little disappointed with this record on a first lesson, as I was going in expecting a whole list of bangers like the opening Mountains at Midnight, but I gave this album a second chance, and I'm grateful...
I remember the band talking about freeing themselves to simplify songs, go back to basics, and when listening to tracks like The Firing Line, Triggers, and brillaint closer Waves, I really started to get what they meant. Not back to basics in the sense of repeating their first album, but countering a world of overproduced pop-rock.
It's easily Mike Kerr's best vocals, demonstrating far more ability and range, the riffs are catchy as fuck, pacing's great, and if you only want the bangers...
Look up "Supermodel Avalanches."
A B-Side that's one of their best in years.
