Update: March 9th, 2025

I was hoping make light of the video's "Next Week" release having to be on the last day of the week, but I've unfortunately massively underestimated the workload of this video's final stint, and now not even a technicality can stop my promise from not being kept.

What making this video has taught me is that while I can crawl through the trenches... I'm no Marine. Making a Video Wall based on the game's HUD seemed simple enough, its just adding a Key Layer to my usual process, right?

...right?

I didn't factor in having to crop most of these clips manually, or having to constantly switch between Edit, Fusion, and Compounds whenever making these transitions and layouts.

I also underestimated the Video-Walls/Split-Screens that've become more prominent in my later videos, as they're a really effective way to give viewers extra visual information without adding time or rapid-cuts. Sure, this video was going to have more, but that's just more time spent doing the same thing isn't?

Except, previously, my split-screens weren't nearly as specific of examples, and they were from games that had plenty of cinematic shots to fall back on if one didn't work.

I had to modify Rollerdrome (mega thanks to the help of Patron Dewm) to disable the game's HUD, leading me to also using Free Cam to get more cinematic shots than the games relatively limited number acquired through disabling the HUD.

So now, when a Split-Screen is working technically, it can still fail creatively, leading me to go back into the game, and manually use these tools to get a different shot that works.

All of this is making me, in a weird way, excited for the video after this about Perfect Dark Zero, which shouldn't require this amount of tinkering... and if it does, I'm gonna learn from this lesson, and assign someone to assist.

I belong in editing, not VFX.

I also mismanaged my time this week. Wednesday, I'd completely forgotten my friend who's moved to BC recently had booked us to see Banksy's exhibit here in Vancouver a month ago. Luckily, they kept their promise about breaking down my door to drag me to the Gallery, but it did mean skipping half a day's work.

Today I'm visiting Family, so even at optimal speed, this project wouldn't get done by the end of the day. I see the light at the end of the tunnel, but that light blinded my view of the speedometer.

I am sorry to keep y'all waiting even longer, and to have not kept my word about watching it this week. While I don't want to repeat the GOG video's crunch, I know there's a way to better balance work, and more accurately track progress.

I wish all of you a wonderful weekend, your generosity really cannot be overstated. Y'all deserve the best, and I am deeply grateful to have such support.

Thank you!

Good thing your friend dragged you along for the exhibit. Too much work is bad for anyone.

Hey, I'm glad your friend dragged you away to get out and spend some time with them too. Personally I find stuff like that helps recharge me a bit to get back fresh. Keep doing what you're doing, man. ❤️
